Off down to Dorset tomorrow to check out and leave a deposit on a Ford Galaxy - 8 months old , 2,300 miles on it, that I got a for a very good price (offer on ebay classified ad).

Spoken to owner (older couple by the sounds of it), reason for sale is that their son works for Ford and gets them cheap(er) cars; they have another car and have decided no point in keeping this one as they hardly ever use it (cf: mileage).

Right, done an HPI check which came back clean, am taking a mate down who used to work as a truck mechanic so can give it a good impartial once-over. I'll check the VIN matches the log book, that all the numbers (VIN, chassis, engine etc) look kosher and havn't been tampered with and I'm taking the V5 document for my current car so I can compare like for like and check the Galaxy V5 looks genuine.

I need to be 100% sure this car is ok as it's a fair chunk of cash. Not worried about the mechanical side so much as it has 28 months Ford warranty left on it, just need to check it's not stolen, cloned, etc.

Anything else I need to look at / for?

Only has 28 months warranty left on it if its been serviced at the correct intervals, if its gone over a service interval the allowances are very tight, less than 100 miles IIRC. (just noticed its only done 2,300 miles though!)

Haggle hard as Ford employees get quite a chunk off new cars.

If you are not covered by your own insurance, get some temporary insurance. You can do it online and have the cover note printed out in 10 minutes, about £30 when I wanted to test drive an uninsured van. (I was 26, £4000 van, 24hrs cover)
