I know it's a bit of a long shot, but does anyone know of somewhere that would refill a single 2kg CO2 fire extinguisher near Newcastle?

It's supplying CO2 to our home aquarium and is getting low.  I've got a full spare which I bought new from eBay for about £24, so can swap straight over when this one empties.

I'd  rather get the empty refilled than buy another new full one though (for environmental reasons as well as it simply seeming a daft thing to have to do).

So, anyone know where I could get it refilled?

Might be easier to get a bigger bottle from a pub supplier? I get mine locally (not local to you though) for about £27 for 6.3kg. Thats rent free although the cylinders owned by the supplier so I cant take it elsewhere.

Its not the easiest thing to refill them though, most places will only swap them for full ones and they're filled elsewhere.

+1 for the pub gas. I paid £19 for 6.35kg on Thursday. Bought it from local air liquide agent. They didn't even want a deposit, just said bring it back to us. You might need to adapt your regulator to fit though?

If they aren't close by, they may deliver to a pub nearby, so maybe worth asking for no/low delivery cost. My one said they would pick up/swap for new when empty.

Get a rent free CO2 cylinder from Hobbyweld in Westerhope.

http://www.hobbyweld.co.uk/

I use a 6.3kg one for my homebrew. They have agents around the NE where you can pick them one up to avoid the delivery charge or if you are a bit of a drive from Westerhope.

I know some of the homebrewers in the NE use these to refill cylinders.  http://www.cormetonfireltd.co.uk/

I haven't used them myself.

Thanks for the replies.

I've looked at the brewing stuff before but all the cylinders are a bit bigger than what I've currently got.  My current 2kg fire extinguisher fits nicely in the cabinet under the tank.  I doubt I'd get a 6.3kg cylinder in there!

I've sent a message to Dixon's at Westerhope to see if they'll fill my empty - think they're the same company as Hobbyweld.

I'll try Cormeton too - thanks for the link gobuchul.

If anyone has actually successfully had a fire extinguisher refilled, I'd be keen to find out where and how much it cost.

Cheers.
