The shortest day is the 21st, is the longest night the one before, or after?

Overnight 20/21 is shorter than 21/22 by 2 seconds, so the latter is the longest night.

Thanks! Although I fear it may have to be moved.
The Mrs wants to celebrate the solstice by greeting the Sun at dawn after the longest night, and the fact that this is not the longest day will not be allowed to stand 🙁

Just noticed on there I've lost 9 minutes of daylight by moving 90 miles north. Presumably I'll get it back in the summer.

Our wedding anniversary is 21st Dec. I often mention it being the darkest day. Oh, how she laughs.

You will. Just remember to pop a note in the diary, it's easy to forget summer is the first Tuesday in June.

Glasgow here and when I used to cycle to work, it was always the last week in February when I could cycle home for 6pm and not need lights. That always felt good

Interesting, from that link earlier the day is the same length from 18th to the 25th.
