Hello, due to my impending midlife crisis I shall need to park daily at the derby royal for the next 18 months.

Despite being a student there I receive no discount on the £8+ per day charge.

I know most of the roads around the hospital are residents only but does anyone know how far out that extends? I’m happy to walk for 20 mins or so from where I can park.

many thanks

Don't know derby too well and in a tradition of not answers the question asked, but could you park at a park and ride and cycle in??? Either a folder in the boot or an old beater left at the station and use sustains routes 6 and 54.  Google says 3.5 miles from pride park.

In my time there a lot of staff would pick a place along the route of the Derby Royal bus service that came out from town and pick some on street parking along its route. Sorry I can't say where was best as I ride in. If picking the walking option there used to be a fair bit of non permit parking on the streets of Old Uttoxeter Road, off the likes of Peel Street etc, easily walkable within 20 mins I would think. A few year's since I worked there, so might have changed, but that's were I would check first if I was planning the same. There is a good chunk of rent my drive stuff in Mickleover too.

I know Derby quite well and racking my brain as to where you could park. I doubt you’ll get away with parking in the nearby residential areas as that loophole has been clamped down on as local residents were understandably getting p’d off with cars littering their roads. Do you know where people who work there park? The traffic lights just outside the DRI usually have lots of people who work there crossing the road to, I assume, an employee car park?

Maybe park in the Kingsway retail centre car park and walk in, it’s about a 10 min walk. As long as you don’t park in the Sainsbury’s side i’m not sure if the main car park is policed.

Thanks everyone. I’m really not sure where staff park (perhaps they get a parking subsidy?)

My in laws live about 4 miles from the hospital so in the longer term I could maybe look at the folding bike solution, although getting out of a warm car and onto a soaking wet/cold bike in mid winter is going to be no fun!

I just need to find a side street *just* outside of the residents parking zone but it’s quite hard to figure out exactly where it is!

I know initially quite a few of the local residents extended their driveways and offered discounted parking rates to hospital staff.

Don't park in Sainsbury's or the to maxx side, both limited to 3hrs with anpr fines. There are the city run e-bikes that can be pocjed up/left at the royal.
