I lost the archieve of the badger thread when my domain hosting got attacked. I may have a copy on a hard drive somewhere.
On the flipside, I have no idea about most of the references from the last 5-10 years

Not a long term member but the thread got my forum memories going and recalled Richie McCoy/Mr Freeride UK and his legendary orange boiler suit (did he use to post on bikeradar?)
Not really funny in the end when it finally dawned on everyone he had AS. some posters over on BM went straight to hell.
42, on the other hand was hilarious.

I heard Surf Matt absolutely smashed the black run. He didn't once boast about it though.
I've been here (quietly) for 15 years. Not back as far as GoFar but it still feels like a fair old time.

That was dan or beer, wasn't it? Back when you could just type in any username for each post so trolling was very simple indeed. One of them was quite funny, the other one mainly tried to get people to click on links to disgusting web sites. I can't remember which one was which any more.
Did anyone ever find out if there was a cure for brittle knees?
That penguin/pump picture is one of my favourite ever pictures on here.
Nearly 9 years on the post hack forum and a good year or two before that I reckon. 😯
I know a few people I know are on here but I think there is only one who I'm fairly sure I know who they are.
I have Mrs Toast’s rainbow/spokeydokey image stored somewhere. It still makes me giggle uncontrollably.
I'm from GoFar days as well and all it serves to do is remind me I am old !
Badger, surfmatt, mint sauce, being able to ask brant about your order, the hack, the hamsters, bullhearts first postings. Picolax of course. Mumsnet, hora, tj when he was overtly Arthur scargill. Ah, I am old.

Anyone else remember Ryans BMW M5? Been on since 1999 I think.
I’m a newb compared to you lot. 5 years and counting down the days.
Sadly the days of endless architecture threads have disappeared, post a theme and let it roll.
Some personalities have sadly left, some reset themselves yet return to type.
Some hilarious threads have lightened my day, don’t really know about the old days but understand to some they still instill wonderment.
But it’s all gone a bit shit since the Brexit vote, divided and secular personal traits have tainted and blur over the good time before the vote.

I think I joined at uni way back in 2002. Changed usernames in one of the great crashes. Was introduced to the place by Fruit who was a friend at uni - before he was the infamous bike components mogul he became.
Really came into its own around 2006 when I moved to Somerset and met up with Dibbs, Sharkie and Knottie off of here to get shown all the "secret" stuff.
I miss the brief fun where we were allowed to tag threads... I tihnk only special people can now.
First heard about ST and the forum when I went to the first SITS back in 2001. Joined the forum a bit after then iirc. Most of the people I now count as friends were met through the forum BITD. Even Drac!

Ahhh, so many good threads. I’ve been on here about 12 years I think. I also liked GeeTee’s personal ad, and the “how do deal with asky people” was funny, some guy getting shafted by his mate, Google Fu is failing me though.
Actually "Ur bik is Saricin and ur XC jeyboy" is the earliest running joke on here that I remember.
When I first joined this place had an awful lot of full sus vs hardtail threads, which were mainly about pedalling efficiency. Singlespeeding and Inbred ownership were very well represented.
Were there threats to track people via their IP addresses in the badger pump thread? The original Yes Tubes page that triggered it all off does not seem to be around any longer, but look what I found on archive.org!

Both stolen from the MBUK forum where the kids used to hang out, all the grown ups were on STW.
Oddest thing about early STW was that you could choose a new username every time you posted - it led to quite significant levels of mischief.
I think "Dick's Shrew" is the earliest thread I still recall.
Ahh Rickos and Chunky
It took me a while to work out that the username field could be edited, as you still had to register a proper account to comment on news articles.
I had the vague impression that the Saricin stuff started elsewhere but it was well established on here by the time I joined.
Fist pie.

What part of the phrase
"F*CK OFF!"
don't you understand.
Firstly
Those images show a tyre WITH A TUBE IN you * and secondly I've never used the Stans system - I HAVE used the eclipse system.
1. the website is slagging off a product of company - they can sue you for this - justifiable criticism or poor reviews are OK but in this case the website is intentionally setting out to damage the products market.
2. the images of Oliver Hardy are owned by Larry Harmon Pictures Corp of America and they are already in several legal claims over the use of images of Oliver Hardy without permission.
3. I might be wrong (I did have a hangover) but I don't remember you being at wuthering Bikes so what the hell would you know about it? maybe you should get your * facts straight first before you "just have a laugh" at someone.
And as for anyone saying
"oh but we're laughing with you" Well I think I'm the one who decides that and thats not what I think from here. So for F*CKS SAKE GIVE OVER YOU BUNCH OF F*CKING ARSEHOLES!

No the white gunbk as explained many times was where I emptied the latex out of a tubless system in order to stick a tube in so I wouldn't miss the mornings riding. Have a look at the pictures theres a bloody tube in there FFS!
P.S. Stans No Tubes (TM) have a legal department which is very easy to contact and who read their emails reguarly by the looks of it! How do I know - well guess!

Anyway I'm pretty sure that there is a provision in law for using trademarked/copyright material for the use of parody, though it may only apply to the US (something about free speech and all). This would seem to apply in this case.
Anyway I find it all pretty funny even though it was "my" tubelesskits that were involved.

No Jon - Your Tubless kit was NOT involved!
How many god damn times? The wheel in theat photo has what is technically known as a "TUBE" in it - it can be clearly seen - how then is this a good example of why not to use tubless?
The reason why the tyre exploded (and the gods help if I have to repeat this any more times) was a "DAMAGED RIM BEAD AND TYRE WALL" due to hitting a bloody great rock descending stairs lane in the dark with lights that kept going out due to a dieing battery! Fun until I hit the said rock!
As for the law allowing Parady - yes within reason - in this case the parady is intended purely to damage the buisness of "Stans no tube.com" and as such is not covered by the free speach rights under the US constitution!
Thanks
Now give over
I'm off to Asda as the morons dragging screaming children round an over warm supermarket is probably more interesting / enjoyable than you lot!

It's a funny picture. People like it and find it amusing. You happen to be in it. People who don't know you find the picture equally amusing ergo it has nothing to do with what people think of you. Andy
fair enough I suppose - the reason I find this picture annoying is because it gets posted by some people at least once a week and often in response to an opinion I give about something totally unrelated.
If they want to discus a subject - great its a forum after all but why keep posting that damn picture time and time again in a totally unrelated thread as if to say "hey this guys opinions are irrelevant look he can't even blow up a tyre" I find this annoying - I also find the constant posting of it annoying - I'm willing to accept its funny (or at least was) but after 9 months its getting to grate a bit.
Most of the time the people who are posting weren't even at Wuthering Bikes and they usually use the picture to ridicule the tubless system - which contary to what they believe does work for some people. But the picture shows me inflating a tyre with a tube in which then ruptured due to a bad rim bead.
Perhaps my comments above could have been less confrontational but then I would be being just as reasonable to say that others comments have recently been equally abusive or confrontational - sufficiently so that the thread got deleted the other day.
As to others questions about why I didn't use a tube before - because at the time I was running the tublesskit (and had been happily for 6 months) in order see what the tublesskit was like - to see if it worked. Just as Singletrack tests kit that the authors may not ordinarily use - to see what its like. Given the choice I will try something for myself and come to an opinion based on experience rather than on the rants of one side or the other of a interest group (well sort of interest group I suppose).
It turns out that I found out there is a problem with the system that if you hit a big enough rock at enough speed you can sometimes loose all the air (just as you would with a pinch flat) and when this happens sometimes the rim bead gets buggered - just like happens very occasionally with a tube - probably slightly more often to be fair.
But then I knew the system was a compromise - but lets face it if we weren't interested in trying anything new we would all still be riding a roadbike frame with rigid forks and we thin wheels (hang on thats cyclocross - just kidding! )
I now use the system only on the front where it isn't prone to the increased pressures caused by my weight on a bike! And on the new bike I Mavic UST rims and Conti UST tyres - now you can debate whether UST is worth the money all you like but personally I think the conti vert UST on a mavic rim a stunning combination - I have difficulty getting the damn tyres on and theres no way in hell they are comming off in a hurry on a ride so all in all I can't see much wrong with them - I stuck a tiny bit of latex in to help them seal round the rim and I have a UST tubless repair kit - never used it in 6 months - so far so good.
Since I have taken my time to calmly write this I've probably missed all sorts of daft, abusive, odd and downright out the ball park comments on this thread but unless any of them are going to add to the thread I'm off to look at the other threads and then find a good book to read whilst listening to some music.
perhaps this will put an end to this area (although I doubt it).

Thanks Andy, you've actually answered a question I was about to ask - would the tyre bead have been damaged if you were using a tube.

Surely the only group who should take offence at this are the "UST" people (Re: end your UST woes), as that is nothing to do with Stan's No Tubes.

Well then, I can understand why Andy gets a bit annoyed about seeing the picture all over the place, however in such circumstances it's probably best to feign indifference. It still makes me chuckle, particularly coupled with comments like Mike D's above. But I can see it getting annoying after a bit.
Andy Badger you should probably remember that there are far worse things you could have been photographed doing, if the John Bryans of this world can cope with infamous photos I'm sure you can find a way.
As to the bit about deliberately trying to damage Stan's notubes business, I don't think so... there is for some reason so much hyperbole from evangelical advocates of the various tubeless systems (myself prob'ly included) that it needs a contrary view to even it up a bit. Yes they do work great, but none will change your life in any radical way. It's just a way of going slightly faster and getting less flats.

children, children, children, now grow up.
UST isnt for everyone, but if you live in an area where sharp rocks and cactus abound (think Phoenix Arizona) then combined with sealant it is great. In local racing you see half the field on tubeless, sure beats inflating to 60psi to avoid pinch flats, and then still getting a thorn in the tire. I once removed 7 thorns from the tire after a race and it had only lost a couple of PSI.
If you dont want or need the hassle of the system, greater cost, different technique in putting on the tire, weight increase, then run regular tubes and enjoy the riding. Thats what its all about anyway.
Well off to do some mountain singletrack. Got a few isolated showers last night after 90 days without rain.
Enjoy your mud.

I've been laughing my arse off. I'd seen the "Olly" site and thought it was bloody hilarious. Didn;t realise that Pics was you badger and despite hagning around here and bikemagic have *never seen it before*. I have however seen Dan's penguin version somewhere or other.
Take a step back and look at it from the point of view of someone not involved. It's parody pure and simple, and very effective
And by the way, the only time I've seen anything like *your* wheel was not too far from the scence of your incident, up on Sahckleton Moor (just past the (in)famous House of ****): StuN's back wheel just exploded as he rode up a small rock - we're talking 2" high, not even sharp. About 12" of rim was bent outwards, tyre shredded and 8" of inner tube un-accounted for to this day. Yep, that's right, TUBES not UST
anyway, back to work.

Regardless of UST/stans/eclipse/whatever performance, that pic of andy is one of the funniest EVER mtbing pictures. One of the only pics I have ever seen which is utterly hilarious to MTBers, but incomprehensible to anyone else (although the penguin version is probably funny to everyone)
If it were me in the photo instead of Andy, I would be proud.

Andy Holland, in addition to being an incredible whiner, you are a complete idiot.
But you make up for your idiocy by being VERY entertaining, which I thank you for.
"Dear Sirs,
I am writing with regard to your website, ( http://www.paradigmhosting.net/yes_tubes/contact.htm).
I have passed the URL of your site to Stan’s no tubes manufacturers in order for them to pursue you for damages to sales of their product.
In addition I note that the images being used in the “testimonials” portion of the website are of myself and a wheel (showing an inertube which was ripped by a damaged rim bead on the tyres.) These images are misleading – the system I use is not “Stans No tubes” system and when these images where taken the wheel being inflated had a tube inside it. Remove the images of myself from the website within the next 48 hours or I will instruct my lawyer to pursue the matter. Under the recent act of parliament the use of images of an individual in a negative light without that persons express permission is an invasion of their privacy and as such I hereby notify you that I am withholding any such permission with regard to the images contained on your website.
I also wish to inform you that you are breaking copyrighted material as the worldwide publicity rights to all images of Oliver Hardy are owned by the Larry Harmon Pictures Corp. of America.

#1. Just because your fat ass is in a picture does not mean that you own the copyright to said picture. Have your attorney check into US law.
#2. It seems that the root of your distress is that you are an extremely insecure person, as evidenced by your posts here and your hilarious email. Perhaps your attorney could recommend a good psychologist, or even a few decent hookers?
#3. In response to your reaction to the Oliver's parody site:
Stuff it up your big fat ass, have a few pints, and get over yourself already.
Then find someone to buy you a proper sense of humor (hell, one would expect that someone raised in the culture that brought the world Monty Python would have a head start on this part, but you never know....).
Best of luck!

I have to say that I find talk of suing quite entertaining.
Mr Badger BSc MSc CRFP may have mentioned deflation of character or somesuch, but really... hello?
Surely no lawyer (even in today's bonkers society) would go near a case like this?
"Please sir, they were making fun of me and wouldn't stop!"
"Oh dear, that's a shame."
"I want them to give me lots of money to make for it."
"Um, tough ****."
I'd make a great judge.

It's registered to an individual. Me, in fact.

Oh boy, I guess I see how you and your pal could make those assumptions but your efforts to get the site closed down are funny considering the real facts.
I own the domain.
I have a dedicated server that is hosted by Rackshack so they don't host the domain.
Many of Rackshack's clients run hardcore porn sites so I'm sure the admin guys are laughing their asses off about some Brit whining about a picture of him holding a bike pump in front of a puddle of spooge.
"Trying to get his site killed was perhaps a bit of a crappy thing to do but then so are the pictures so PeteF I think we're all square!"
No problem.
Just imagine how someone could make a Phd candidate's life "interesting" if they started to send their University, Rob Janaway, Mark Pollard, Dr. Randolph Donahue, etc. etc. complaints about various things if someone did have a problem with your idea of entertainment.
That would be "crappy," eh?

I'm expecting to see a photo of the Badger standing on top of the World Trade Center, something like this guy.
<img src="http://www.urbanlegends.com/ulz/uhoh.jpg">
As I recall someone did a huge series of him in just about every famous photo.

Please can the next edition of STW be dedicated to this thread? it must be preserved for future generations. Or perhaps it deserves to be commemorated with a limited edition hardcover book? I'd want it for Christmas...
Amazing.

So nothing to do with you falsely claiming registration with the Council for the registration of forensic practioners?

This surely must go down in the history books, or as Markie says - at least get a mention in the next magazine :D:D
utter pure class - brightened up my afternoon all round.
I'm getting that picture made into a T-shirt badger.
Thanks for ALL the pics and gifs folks - genius.

Funnily enough, I was washing up last week, and this image just popped into my head, like random things do, and there I was thinking how I'd have probably never have remembered it except for the completely OTT reaction from 'the badger'

Some old faces on this thread, we bemoan the new forum, but god was I ever sick of that bloke in the top corner when he was here for years! The new forum is supposed to be more work friendly right? So lets get forum happy instead.
Cheers.

Yeah it works better with pics.
As for this crap - I've seen sense and decided your not worth bothering with - so feel free toss away tossers - I don't care anymore - this forum has hit about rock bottom anyway so a few more sticky tissue swamped idiots will make it no worse!
Rock bottom 14 years ago and we've been digging deeper ever since.
im not reading all that - but has anyone mentioned sudocreme cat yet ?
#I struggle with long sentences, paragraphs and strings of words that make no coherent sense.
I missed the Mint Sauce keyring debacle. 🙁
Yeah... that's totally ****ed the page up.
Mint Sauce key ring was excellent! I see iDave is still Tweeting and advertising his coaching/dieting services, was tempted to link to the thread for him.

The star nut stuck in my carbon steerer thread was a good 'un too

That was dan or beer, wasn't it? Back when you could just type in any username for each post so trolling was very simple indeed. One of them was quite funny, the other one mainly tried to get people to click on links to disgusting web sites. I can't remember which one was which any more.
Dan, he was funny..
Beer was weird... Remember clicking on STW early one morning & he'd posted letters as thread titles, then kept them in order so the top four threads spelt out the word JISM 😕
Thanks
Has Hora found his unicorn bike yet?
Officially I've been a 'member' for about half the amount of time I've actually been frequenting these parts of the inter webs. It was pretty fierce a some time ago with the likes of TJ et al so I kept a distance and peered in. 😆
bigyinn - MemberDoes anyone know where I can get a silent clutch hub from?
Kraynick's Bike Shop, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Really) 🙂

I remember when all this was GoFar.
Incidentally - is it common knowledge where the name "GoFar" comes from? I only found out a couple of months back.
flapjackie burned very bright for a short while (nearly made a come back a few weeks ago)

29 posts, 70 deleted posts. That may be a record (though it does appear to have been aggressively modded, different times...)
The oldest memey thing I remember may be "you are a troll and I claim my five pounds".
You're probably right about it being the oldest. "You are... and I claim my five pounds" predates not just STW but the Internet. It's a 'phrase that pays' from some newspaper competition or other from forever ago.
The oldest memey thing I remember may be "you are a troll and I claim my five pounds".
Holy shit, it's even older than I thought!

I used to be on here all the time back in the day - but changed my name 8 years ago due to a stalker... Picolax was probably the finest thread ever though.
(Just looked - my Subscriber Number is 301 so I am guessing I have been around for a very long time!)
Picked the right username then.
I used to be on here all the time back in the day - but changed my name 8 years ago due to a stalker
My name change was more recent than that but for the same reason.
There was a thread where someone unwittingly posted a picture of himself in the air on (half off) his bike and asked someone to fix it in photoshop somehow... Someone must know where the results are.
Think I've been here since 2004/5.
Ah the old days. We were all younger then. We all had 26” Stiffees.
Now we’re happy with a 120mm drooper
