Almost out of options and wondered if someone from here could help.

My sister has a Samsung tablet that's bricked, stops loading at the logo. I can access recovery mode and download (ODIN) mode. Ideally I want to save her not backed up (🙄) images, either by rescuing Android or by resetting everything and then hoping some data recovery program works.

Tried flashing the stock ROM via ODIN, can't because MDM doesn't allow it.

Tried doing factory reset from recovery, can't because the option is not even there.

Is there anything else I can try before taking it to a repair shop?

Edit: and of course usb debugging is not enabled so I can't use ADB either

Why do people not do that one little thing that’s going to make their lives better when something almost inevitably goes wrong, and back everything up? 🤷🏼

First of all, check to see if there's an SD card inserted, if you're lucky the files will be on there. And presumably you've checked this also but there might be backups in Samsung Cloud

If the files are on internal storage, and the tablet is running a more recent version of Android, after a factory reset no files will be recoverable as they're encrypted and you'll have lost the encryption key. It would helpful if you'd say the model of the tablet as the recovery procedure could be more feasible if it's very old.

Slightly off topic but why is it being managed by an MDM and which one?

No SD card... It's a Tab A7 Lite, dunno which version of android.

The MDM is probably because of the internet filter on it, Netspark. I think it's Samsung Knox doing the actual locking.

If it's android you have to try particularly hard not to have your photos up in google storage - are you sure they're not there?

While I agree, having now worked with multiple staff on Android phones, it is amazing how many of them do not follow our step by step set up guide for a work phone, and avoid spending that hour on a new phone to set it up properly. And when I finally help them do things properly, minds are blown away from access to photos in google storage to write reports with, or timeline to do you expenses from etc...
