I know this is a long shot, but wondering if anyone has, or knows of any decent 2-bedroom properties for rent in Aberystwyth?
My son and a mate have got places on Masters courses at Aberystwyth but are struggling to find anywhere half decent to rent. The best properties obviously got snapped up by undergraduates before Christmas but post grads are forced to wait until they have a confirmed offer of a place before looking for somewhere to live, by which time there is very little left. All that seems to be available now are grotty flats for £800+ a month.
Their courses start at the end of this month so it's getting a bit tense here!
Sorry no help here coz I have never gone anyway near Wales.
Just trying to say that I was trying to chat up a Univ of Aberystwyth female student on the train many many years ago. LOL! I looked like a fool as I didn't know the culture very well then. I can still remember her face very clearly now. LOL! What a fool I was and what an embarrassment. I bet if my friends were with me it would be the end of "cool".

Crikey. That's very expensive if bills are not included.
Was in a similar position last year in Bristol - Son1 started a Masters. I'd have bitten someone's hand off for £800 pcm for a two-bed flat (I paid £600 plus bills for half a flat). Get in there quick. University town with limited accommodation options. Things won't get any better from here.
If it's not too far away there's quite a bit of cheapish rental accommodation further down the coast at Glan-y-wern and Morfa Borth. Not sure whether they will take students though.
In my second year I lived above Rummers by the harbour
I wonder if they still have rental properties ?

Amazing that I passed tbh, I'm not sure it was conducive to great studying but the rooms themselves were really nice )one of the oldest buildings in the town)
Iirc @jivehoneyjive lives in aber?
Does your son have transport?
If so, it would probably be worth widening the search as far as Machynlleth, Aberaeron and possibly Llangurig.
But not Borth. I lived there once. It's horrible in the winter. It's even worse in the summer.
Maybe look in penrhyn-coch. The uni has a satellite campus there, it's easy to get into Aber and you are half way to Nant y arian and on the edge of some lovely countryside.
My hot tip would be to train em to escape the rat race early and get a schweet off grid camper, then park it at the layby at the top of Penglais Hill!
Failing that, as others have said, try widening your search, though bear in mind public transport can often be pretty sparse if you venture away from the coast road or railway (not the Devil's bridge line ;))
If they wanna ride some schweet local trails with some of the best views in Wales, they're welcome to give me a shout, though best wait a few months as I'm out of action with a torn rotator cuff at the mo.
Yeah, you are fairly screwed there!
A few years back some postgrad bought a boat (like a knackered 30ft yacht) and moored it in the harbour (presumably just on a buoy). That was cheaper than rent for a year and good if you like sailing. Otherwise, try some of the caravan sites/caravan somewhere? Worth visiting in person to recce what's available - surprising who becomes a landlord when offered 2 well behaved academics..!
This is the guy:

It was in Ynyslas, which is down the road (and mooring is cheaper)
How about Llanddewi Brefi? I know of at least one AirB&B set up for the Eisteddfod, so there might be something worth looking at.
Thanks for the replies.
All sorted now. Managed to get a room in a newly refurbished flat after someone had to drop out. 👍🏻
