I’ve read a number of articles about cycling in America, where drivers deliberately target cyclists, considering them to be illegitimate invaders of their holy highways. There is little to no tolerance, a group of cyclists were deliberately run into by a car driver fairly recently. ‘Rolling coal’ is another tactic, where diesel truck drivers reset the emissions to deliberately produce thick clouds of black smoke then drive close to cyclists and EV drivers. It’s blatantly irresponsible and illegal, and a company that facilitates it was recently fined a lot of money under EPA laws, but it still goes on.
Typical redneck hatred of people who do things differently, and also ’owning the libs’. 🤬

Sobering, and so sad 🙁

Also, I did not know "JayWalker" was a perjorative term.

Bit dusty that story/report.

Wow.

A long sobering read for sure, but I am glad that I read it to the end.

Brings it home. Every town or city has a monster of a road.

The monster that I have to cross, and its only a one lane each way, is just a ribbon of cars during the summer months, INDICATED speed limit 50mph, but its rural, and out of town, so speeds are higher (hence the block caps of the word indicated).

The national path crosses with only a narrow island in the middle, only 1 person at a time to cross, you have to tun your bike 90 deg to be in line with the traffic, its too narrow to have your bike facing across the traffic.

Evey time I cross here, I do consiously feel I am taking my life my life in my hands.

Unfortunately, nowhere near to cross, a roundabout 3 miles away in 1 direction, and a roudabout 2 miles in the other direction. No locals cycle along that road, only cross at this crossing.

Jesus that was a heartbreaking read.

It's not as bad here, but it's still f'ing terrible. It's getting worse in my experience too. I barely ride my roadie anymore and prefer to stick to my MTB. When I do ride it, I'm often having stressful experiences that ruin my ride, every one of those negative experiences is caused by a driver.

Things like rolling coal boil my piss.

Yeah I learnt that today via a different article. A word that's entered the lexicon and laws in America. It basically means 'Retard walker' and was invented by car executives as a way of passing the blame for deaths from cars onto pedestrians.

Utterly deplorable.

We only remember the bad incidents, though there are still too many of them. There are more good drivers and fewer bad ones round here compared to when I started riding again 20 years ago.
