You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
We'd like to take the girls to London for a couple of days at Easter but are struggling a bit, as all the central hotels seem to be frantic for two nights' B&B and it's too far to do as a day run. Has anyone got any other suggestions for accommodation?
Are we being over-optimistic taking a 6yo and a 4yo anyway?

Used to live around the corner, and use the gym there, but we stayed recently when in That London's Famous Pimlico for a wedding. We had a two bedroom flat, with a kitchen (tiny, but serviceable), sitting room and a nice bathroom, for about £100 more than the cost of a single room at something like a Premier Inn/Travelodge for the two nights. £50 a night for a bedroom for the kids and room for us to relax? Yep. Worth it.
Not B&B, admittedly, but you have a kitchen, so brekker can be arranged. If not, plenty of good brekker spots to be found in Pimlico!
Oh, and use of the pool as well, which the MiniFlashes loved. (Little Miss CFH used to swim there as a baby before we left town). Money well spent, I'd say.
Are premier Inn family rooms too much? Or book an ordinary travelodge and call them to put an extra bed in. I was surprised when they did and didn't charge.
Took my when 6 and 4 but then getting into town only takes 40mins.... I reckon too young as a special trip... Doing the tourist thing is knackering as an adult let alone for the kids.
But come back on here if you do go... Loads of people will have good tips
Great age for first trip to London.
We stayed in apartments rather than Hotels.
Much easier than a hotel room, small kitchen for breakfast, and tea for the kids in the evening.
Mrsdt's and I had a takeaway and a few beers, you are not sat in a hotel room in silence with two sleeping kids at 730
Often quite central and good rates for weekenders, the accommodation is usually used by city folk during the week
Try, Think apartments, We had a great one on Tower Bridge Road, and a very good one Near the Old Vic.
We stayed at Heathrow and got the Express into Paddington every day - much cheaper hotels.
We used a hotel close to the City (from memory just south of Black friars bridge)
Posh hotel but surprisingly cheap on a weekend because it was focussed on business users and half empty at weekends.
Its perfectly doable with kids at 6 and 4 we took our two boys who were then just 6 and 3 last summer and had an awesome weekend.
What we did was....
Saturday train to Waterloo arriving late morning
London Eye
Walk on South Bank east with a stop for lunch taking in all the street entertainers and market stalls. There is a skate park they can watch at too under a bridge.
Over the course of the afternoon we got through to Borough Market then on to hotel
Early evening tube to Covent Garden and had a bit of food and London noise
Sunday we tubed to the Natural History Museum. Plenty there for kids that age. Or Science Museum also good if they like Space more than Dinosaurs.
Train home mid afternoon.
Your choices of attraction may vary but my point is its eminently doable with younger children.
When I were a nipper we used to day trip the museums from Ipswich.
Boat down the river is a good one, St Georges Wharf for lunch, much quieter than near the Eye / south bank.
I organised a stag do in London in September.
We stayed at the Premier Inn in Southwark near the Tate Modern. I think it is actually called the Tate Modern Premier Inn.
We only paid £100 for 2 nights accommodation. Might be worth a look...?
Although - just checked and Easter weekend 2017 it's looking more like £240 for 2 nights....
Premier inn at Greenwich worked well for us, kids loved the cutty Sark, and it's a short ride on the tube/DLR into the centre.
Can't really go wrong with premier inn, the Waterloo one I stayed at was good and central.
Air bnb it, we stayed in Marlylebone when ours were 6, walked a lot, did the usual museums, pizza express type stuff and was well glad of a lounge and beer from the supermarket when the kids were in bed. Travelodge would have been hell.
ratherbeintobago - looks like you're in Yorkshire (roughly). We're in York and did London in a day getting an early train down, underground into town, couple of attractions with a bus trip in between, then pizza express on Euston road and back into KingsX for a train home.
Doable from Leeds, Doncaster or a York I'd say.
(PS - if advance tickets in 1st are cheap, their probably worth it on Virgin EC - decent food and drink)
Abbey Wood caravan club site have some camping pod / chalet type things, if you fancy something a bit different.
Chip shop, Chinese etc round the corner, along with a couple of cafes for breakfast if you don't want to cook.
Doesn't take too long on the train &/or DLR to get in to town.
I couldn't believe we were so close to London.
I'd definitely go there again.
The train's not that bad - we're just on the other side of the Pennines and Virgin do a family ticket that will get us there and back from Stockport.
Hotels are indeed about £150/night and this is all a bit steeper than we'd thought. We'll have a look at some of the options mentioned above - thanks.
If you are coming from the North ,Hotels are cheap in Stevenage & only 25 mins from Kings x.......
