Our running club gets a guaranteed place in the London mara. We have a draw at Christmas Do where all the reject slips get put in and one gets pulled out. This year it was won by a lass who recently lost her father who was also a member of the club and it meant a great deal for her to be able to take part. We hadn't hear anything from the London Mara organisation so our secretary chased them up. They said that they sent a reminder out and that registrations closed on 1st Feb - no exceptions. It had gone in her Junk folder. Disaster. Obviously our Secretary is devastated. We are looking into seeing if we can sort a charity place out somehow but does anyone have any other bright ideas?
Asks more in hope than expectation.

I think your best bet is to speak to some of the charities and hope they have one of their places left. Depending on what the father died of then obviously looking for a suitable charity around that would be a good first start as it normally requires the raising of a fair chunk of cash.

Oh dear sorry to hear this. An old running mate of mine got a place by knocking on the door of the admin office when it was in Richmond park. Dave Bedford was in charge then, it was ages ago.

So if it were me, I know he retired from the marathon mgt, but he s still well connected. So i d be cheeky and approach him directly. He swims in the Hampstead ponds so must live locally.

Good luck btw,
