Mr Kip, Baby Kip and I are off to London for an overnight stay in a couple of Wednesday's time. We need to travel into London to St. Thomas' hospital on the Thursday morning (no problems, it's part of a baby study)and will be paid travelling expenses (from here in Devon), parking for about 3 hours, and congestion charge for 1 day. As a result of this we have decided to stay outside the congestion zone, probably on the SW side, and go for a Travelodge cos you know what you get.
Problem is I am a northern hick who knows nowt of the big city, nor does Mr Kip and we don't know which area is good to stay in.
Any advice is appreciated (other than don't go, we have to) and recommendations are good too. We need somewhere with a cot for Baby Kip and parking for VW T4.
If it was just the two of us we wouldn't care where we stayed, but we are still over-protective new parents so don't want stop just anywhere.
Cheers.
There's a Premier Inn at the old GLC building right underneath the London Eye.Stayed there a few times and its fine without being too pricey.

It's on a private road and if you ask nicely they'll let you park outside.
St.Thomas Hospital is across the road.
Sorry, didn't make it clear...I'm a spendthrift northern hick. Prefer to pay less than £80 for the night hence Travelodge. Is York Road, Battersea a bad spot or are Travelodges likely to be in ok places?
Don't know about the Travel Lodges but South Wimbledon Premier inn should be around £80 & is OK with ample parking
The travelodge in York Road in Battersea isn't really in a great spot, on a traffic-choked busy road near the southern end of Wandsworth Bridge. Across the road from the (notorious) Winstanley Estate, where I used to live.
I wouldn't worry too much about personal safety, but there's not much in the way of attractions within a comfortable walk of the hotel. Clapham Junction and Northcote Road have a few nice pubs and restaurants but they're about a 15 minute walk from there.
I wouldn't stay there if I was in London to see the sights, but there are any number of buses that go past the travelodge that will take you along to St Thomas's, so it's handy from a travel point of view if that is the main purpose of your trip. Also easy to get the train from Clapham Junction into Waterloo for St Thomas's. It's also quite convenient for getting in and out of London if you're coming in from the west.
