In the process of buying a house which needs the insulation beefing up in the loft.
Anyone successfully used one of these companies that offer grants for doing the work?
I attempted to do this. The company that i was put in touch with would complete the work for free etc, they wanted me to subside the cost via a donation to the company, the donation was more than the cost of me doing the work myself and thus no longer free!
They wanted £250 for the work, cost me £70-90 i think using deals from wicks, 3for2 on insulation etc.
Less hassle and easier just to get it done yourself
I think the schemes changed a few years ago, it used to be that the energy companies had to spend a certain amount per year, so would subsidise insulation at B&Q etc which is why you could get silly deals like 4 for the price of 1 etc. I don't think those deals exist anymore, now it seems to only be heavily discounted if you're on benefits of some sort which is fair enough.
Depending on your loft and the time of the year it was such a faffy horrible job I'd gladly have paid someone to do it!
You can get a loan from your energy company IIRC where they cap your bills around your current usage and the savings pay for the insulation over time.
If you claim any kind of benefit this work is usually free ..also cavity wall insulation ( depending on the type of property) .
No harm in asking though ..
