My Nans loft insulation looks like it’s been a home to rats, mice, squirrels and whatever else has managed to get in there for the last god-knows how many years. It’s a state and not a job I fancy doing even fully kitted out in PPE, the roof space is tiny height wise but covers a large area (large bungalow).

I’ve just started doing some googling for companies who will remove the old stuff, clean and disinfect, patch up any holes where pests are getting in and put new insulation down, and thought I’d ask on here too. So has anyone had similar problems before? Any recommended companies? What sort of price am I looking at? And recommendations in Shropshire?

Cheers

If it was me,,,,,,,

id research YouTube. Google etc and DIY it.

Can’t be that hard to fill a hole and insulate a loft.

Hire a skip, get some PPE and take a week off, you will save yourself ££££

Check with your local council, see if there's a grant available?  That's how I did mine.

Bear in mind that rats are unlikely to enter at roof level. More likely through ground level and then up the cavity. I did our entire loft after we had rats.  Was a grim job, but only took a day

I'd make it easy for myself and leave the old stuff in and just lay new over the top (after I'd blocked up any holes).

If you go the diy route, do it on a cool day. Working with insulation in a boiling hot loft is no fun at all.

This, unless the smell of rotting flesh and poo is drifting through the house.
