But.

The policy can be as strict/stupid as anyone thinks, but it’s the general public who are to blame as much as anyone now. Seeing the group’s, the nights out, the people saying ‘sod it’ to any rules, they’re the issue really.

But there will always be people pushing the limits. It's literally the job of government to protect the general public, quite often from themselves. So while I'd agree that personal responsibility is important, you must accept that lockdown 1 had a phenomenal impact on the spread.

Ergo, the nature of restrictions is more significant that the small % who ignore them. Seems obvious that tighter restrictions can minimise the impact of any bellendery going on. So in March, the govt dithered for a few weeks and we saw what happened. Now, it's dithered for a few months, and we will see it again 😥.

Bristol to the FoD, hopefully 🤣

Seriously? A journey of over an hour (you can’t go through Wales) and travelling across multiple county borders...

Bristol has excellent local riding in AC/LW/Belmont and the surrounding trails.

At the moment you can go through Wales, as long you don’t stop (it’s like 4 miles through Chepstow)

Also the 🤣 means I’m slightly taking the piss...

I doubt I’ll have any time off during this lockdown, sadly; I could do with another month off ‘cos we’ve been absolutely run off our feet at work since June, we took on four more logistics staff, and are taking on more, we’re struggling to cope with the three extra contracts we won earlier this year. If I do, I’ll still drive over to Avebury, West Woods and around Castle Combe, because I know for a fact I can walk for ages and see very few other people, unlike walking from home, where I’m surrounded by streets and other people. Plus, I’m the only person in my car, about as socially isolating as I can get.
I’m sure someone will take issue with this, but as stated, I will see very few other people, so I really don’t give a damn.

It is normally pretty good, but most of the off piste in LW has gone with the recent logging (hopefully it'll be back but it's not there now), Belmont will be closed with the rain. You can still ride what's left but I can understand people wanting something a little more inspiring (especially if 1 month turns into two or three)

Agree with Uni though, get the impression that’s a commercial decision. People wanting their money’s worth/Unis won’t survive if they have to refund fees.

Actually there's a problem with closing unis even if they wanted to now. Inevitably the students would scatter back to their parents, many of them unknowingly carrying the virus with them.

I believe more than 20% of cases are attributed to schools ATM.

To transmission in schools or amongst school age children? I know that locally two confirmed cases in teenagers were widely believed to have been "caught" at parties (indoor parties, in an area where indoor mixing was not permitted at that time). I've not heard any more confirmed case since then....

What counts as a short distance?

yes, I think they might have overestimated the ability of the great british public to apply some basic thought to that and work it out for themselves; and leaving flexibility so that people can apply sense to their situation (e.g. travel away from busiest areas) is of course manipulated to suit the advantage of others.

I'm not comfortable messing with a kids education. I believe much of our reasoning even on this very topic stems from our education. Also...aren't a huge proportion of future medical staff currently studying at universities? Haven't all uni students already caught it by now? Seriously....do we know this? Should be easy to find out?

Hopefully it'll get people travelling less than normal, whatever that is, so a step in the right direction. If you normally drive a hundred miles, to the Lakes, say, then now you'll 'only' drive 20 miles in lockdown. I'm sure plenty will say that isn't a short distance, but it is an improvement, and most will stay very local, not driving at all.

No. A lot of Unis tested all their students the percentage wasn’t high.

Anyway this thread has reached the same route as the main covid thread so I will close it. Feel free to continue Covid 19 and lockdown on there. Thanks.
