Looks like something 30 feet long in the water near the 600 feet mark
Anyone fancy a swim?
Wow - someone who's livelihood depends on traffic on the loch finds "evidence" that could increase tourism....
What did they do with the whales from Gare?
Isn't that the boss from space invaders?
Did someone drop a munchie box overboard...?
Was anyone else thinking it was the big red spike they were talking about until you scroll down to the other image? :p
RealTrump™?
FuzzyWuzzy - I certainly couldn't see what it was that everyone was so excited about until I scrolled down either!
Even now I'm not as excited as they would want me to be ;o)
Ok, so why didn't he stop the boat to see if the object was moving? if he had time to take a picture of the sonar screen (I'm making the assumption it doesn't record, which might be wrong), then he had time to stop and do a bit of investigation.
it's a waterlogged..er...log.
The monster is said to be worth £41m to the region in tourism income.
Is the relevant part of that report, I feel.

Hmm. Usual Eastertime headline grabbing monster image heavily delayed by Covid?
VETERAN Nessie hunters are in a state of excitement
Legend probably will die with them too because we're all now so science and hard facts of thinking.
It always amazes me, with the advancement in camera technology, the pictures are worse than an early kodak.
Nessie, nah, big foot is real though ! 🙂
There is plenty of sonar equipment capable of high resolution underwater imaging.
Just not fitted to a tourist boat. That’s one step up from lead line.

Pretty sure they did a scan a few years ago.
A mate of mine skippers one of the tourist boats on Loch Ness, he saw a funny shape on the sonar and snapped a pic on his phone- won a grand for the years best 'nessie' pic
As a matter of interest, why wouldn't there be something large living in the loch? There's more water in that body of water than in all the lakes in England.
Also there are plenty large aquatic animals in nature, so why not there?
It's not going to be a Hollywood type monster, other than size.
There are enough local sober decent people who have seen something in the loch. They won't go to the press.
Because we would have found it by now. We have been boating, swimming, fishing in lochs since, well - since forever.
Animals dont live in isolation in places like the UK. Deep in the Amazon rainforest you might find a previously unrecorded species, but not here in the UK.
Ive got sonar on my boat, signals bounce back off all sorts of things. Shoal of fish, stired up mud, rubish in the water etc. One fuzzy blip on a sonar image is like proof of Jesus because your burnt toast looks like his face 🙂
Well I've never seen such compelling evidence that Nessie is real. If that tiny blip on a sonar isn't proof, what more do you want that a prehistoric creature lives in Scotland?

Westminster is full of them, so why not some in Scotland?
I used to go through the canal taking boats over to Norway from Oban. We always stopped in the middle of Loch Ness to jump off the roof and have a swim. Did always pause for a second to think of beasties.

Theres this thing called mortality and other things such as reproduction.
There couldn't be 1 there would have two be 2 not a very sustainable model but would explain the ****ed twisted spine its often given...
There are no remains ever found.
And while its volumetrically massive its quite narrow so not exactly easy to lose things just watch the narrowest/shallowest part and wait for it to pass by unless its stuck swimming in the deepend. You can see people on the other shore so an absolute monster should be an issue.
In summary, don't be daft.
There are no remains ever found
Point of order, if there were, that would be fairly conclusive proof it isn't living in the loch.

There are no remains ever found
Valid point, but why would there be any remains if it is a deep water animal? Particularly if it is eel like.
I won't believe it exists until I see proof, but I won't disbelieve it because I knew people who had seen something big and anomalous on the loch, and they weren't the sort to make it up.
Of course maybe the RN was playing around with midget subs round about then... 🙂
The problem with "big things" sighted is people perspective can be way off.
There was a video if a panther crossing a field years ago. It was quite convincing until some dragged a cat along the same path. It was clearly a wee cat in original video after that.
I don't know what the number is for a species to exist but its pretty obvious that the volume per creature would rapidly deminish and Something would have turne have turned up by now its not uncharted territory. Some of the deapest parts of the ocean gave up some weird and wonderful fish long before anyone got down to have a poke about.

Aye, there's the risk people see what they want to see.
BTW the big cat people were seeing up in this part of the woods a few decades back turned out to be a puma. It's in Inverness museum now.
It would be interesting to see if a modern deep sea exploration vehicle turned up anything in Loch Ness. Take our minds of Brexit, that would. 🙂

The puma seen around here a few years ago turned out to be mine, well I say puma it was my Labrador.

They tried that didn’t they?
A couple of diver detection sonars at a few locations would be more effective.
