So, my best mate and his family want to book somewhere with me and my lad in the summer.
My lad and i are more than happy in my tent, but my mate's family aren't sure, and aren't kitted for it, so are looking at pre setup arrangements, they shared a setup with me or 6, which was pretty much 800 quid for 4 nights. While i'm not tight, i'm more than prepared (and enjoy) using my own tent and saving the cash.
So, i'm looking for locations, within a few hours drive of Portsmouth, where i can put my tent next to my mates pre setup tent/wigwam/big top/ whatever and save them a few quid in the process. Access to somewhere to ride considered a bonus.
This will be mid August (peak time)
Any thoughts/experience?
Probably more than a few hours from Portsmouth but Deepdale Camping on the Norfolk coast have a couple of Safari tents available.
I am not sure how close you can get your tent to them, but the site is small so it's not like you'll be miles away.
Wye Valley YHA bell tents are in the same field as camping. Camping bathrooms and shared kitchen in the hostel. Fire pit in front of the bell tent. Might be too basic for them? On the river via a steep bank, short drive to Symonds Yat to hire canoes or lots of activities in Forest of Dean, castles, caves etc. https://www.yha.org.uk/hostel/yha-wye-valley
Agree with Konagirl, Wye Valley YHA a good idea. Nice location and you can use the facilities inc good cooked breakfast. FOD close by too.
thanks guys, took a good look at the suggestions, they were really good
ended up settling at a campsite 500m away from an airbnb where my mate and his family are staying 🙂
down near weston super mare, time to find some riding around there now 🙂
Excellent, enjoy some cheesy British seaside resort fun. Mendip is very nearby Ride Mendips and not too far to drive to Quantock.
Teach them how to pitch a tent in your/their back garden. Give them loads of encouragement and help. Offer your mate £200 to pitch their own tent for the duration. Buy beer for yourself and your son. Take them to midgy hell. Sit in car, watch, drink beer 😀
Camping and Caravan Club Readycamp locations might be worthwhile.
Membership cost is smaller than the discount iirc.
The Cotswold site is next door to Diddly Squat farm shop. Bear that in mind....
