As of today mrs_oab has no job.
A specialist peripatetic early years teacher, working in a half dozen nurseries. She trained, coached and led education standards in the nurseries.
The council, among the barrage of suggestions for cost saving, chose to reduce this team of 10 down to 3, nil next year. Saving of £250k as some costs are moved elsewhere.
The civil servants put up cancellation of all early years provision (a legal requirement), not registering pupils at school so shortening the school day (113k), charging parking on Sundays (+£111k), resurfacing carpark at council hq (£17k), looking after private gardens (wtf?)(£10k), 25% fewer SIM cards (£80k saving) etc.
Now a good few things cannot be cut - they are required by govt. So therefore the councillors go for the one big ticket there is movement on as it's a 'improving standards' rather than required.
Sorry to hear that. Sickening that these sorts of cuts are (still) getting pushed through. So, so short sighted.
. So, so short sighted.
It's reactive, not proactive.
It's balanced against the council seeking to save £10m.... More cuts to come.
It's so short sighted. Our school is part of a huge iPad roll out but has run out of money for paper and there's been a spending suspension for months.
Seems to be everywhere, my team leader's wife has lost her LA kitchen job as well.
