Are we at all suprised? Who will be next? How far will this scandal spread? And what will it take to stop it?
Clegg is blustering about a register of lobbyists but IMO we need a completely elected second chamber, and a Right Of Recall so that if 10,000 electors sign a petition, any MP or peer would be recalled and subject to a by-election.
But this is the UK, and nothing will be allowed to interfere with our semi-fuedal system...
A hereditary system seems preferable to what we currently have.
Just abolish it. 1000 hangers on we can do without.
I'd be in favour of an elected second chamber, elected two years after elections to the House of Commons, as it would provide a vital check and balance to a single chamber parliament.
The last thing we need is more politicians.
Well you could always have a dictatorship of one person.
as opposed to a dictatorship of elected politicians who all seem to have no grasp of reality.
In theory we can remove them.
Cool, lets get shot of the lot.
as opposed to a dictatorship of elected politicians
Why do people come out with nonsense like that ?

Hardly the sign of a "dictatorship of elected politicians"
If you want to focus on totally unaccountable people who wield real power over us then look at industrialists and bankers.
"Banker's dictatorship" would be a tad more accurate than "dictatorship of elected politicians".
ernie - but if the politicians weren't so useless, surely they'd rein in the bankers/industrialists?
It's not necessarily because politicians are 'useless'. They have to work within the system which exists. The power of industrialists and bankers is an integral part of that system.
Now I have no problem with changing the existing economic system but the feedback I'm getting is that revolution isn't particularly high on the British public's agenda.
So until the British electorate are prepared to elect politicians committed to changing the existing system then don't expect much, if anything, to change.
