I don't think that picture is real, no way that line of coke would be unsnorted with Liz and KK around.

Antisemitic false Rothschild quote cut from Liz Truss memoir

Your link doesn't seem to be working kimbers

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68853672

I particularly liked:

Ms Truss's spokesman said she had not "meant" to cause offence.

I reckon not causing offence goes to the very heart of her being.

I also liked:

A source close to Ms Truss said: "Liz came across the quote and thought it a useful way of illustrating a point about the Bank of England.

Numerous online sources have stated that it was attributed to Rothschild, so she simply attributed it thus. Clearly nothing more was meant of it."

So she can't be arsed to do proper research for her own book, or pay someone to do it. I guess that fits in with the ineptitude of Britain's shortest ever serving prime minister.

And I was fascinated by this:

Biteback Publishing says it will remove the quote from all future editions.

There are going to be "future editions"? How many are they expecting to sell???

I’ve just watched the Peston interview with her

Lizzies fantasy world: “we were blindsided”

Reality: we ignored absolutely everyone’s advice who all told us that what we were doing was completely insane, did it anyway, then were shocked when it all played out exactly as they all said it would

Madder than a bucket of spiders!

How the hell did this utter jellyhead end up as PM?

"Antisemitic false Rothschild quote cut from Liz Truss memoir"

To be fair, I don't think Liz Truss would ever have read an anti-Semitic fake quote and let it stay in her memoir.

Yeah. She didn't write that all on her own.

"I want to repeal the equalities act, because I want a meritocracy"

"We should stop worrying about how many people get a slice of the pie.  We need to grow the pie so that more people can benefit".

For all intents and purposes, The part of Truss's mind that has any comprehension of human values atrophied when she clubbed together with noted humanists Kwarteng, Raab, Skdimore and Patel to lend their names to  Britannia Unchained

Another way of saying a rising tide lifts all boats.  May be true to a certain extent in theory but in reality the rich benefit from the bigger pie and the poor carry on as they were or become even worse off due to policy decision that have nothing to do with the size of the pie.

Could ask her why her saved west would be any different based on the fact she is a **** and all the people with her are ****s.

“Antisemitic false Rothschild quote cut from Liz Truss memoir”

The odd thing is what it says is basically what the tufton street lot are dreaming off. All the power in the hands of a few private individuals with the state and everyone else having no choice but to meet their demands.

Another way of saying a rising tide lifts all boats.

Its quite telling that they arent the same. The tide specifically includes everyone whereas her version says its okay to exclude people.

It looks to be a knock off of an economics idea but she has missed the point that that one is about rather than having the different interested parties (say shareholders and employees) fighting each other to get a bigger piece of the current pie if they work together then they can grow the pie and both end up with more.

I think it’s a mistake to imagine that the Tufton Street “think tanks” have any sort of vision at all. Instead they are paid to come up with some sort of pseudo-intellectual framework to justify their paymasters ideology. Hence their reluctance to reveal the sources of their funding.

I think some of them do but fair point. It was mostly those who were handing them the cash that I was thinking off.

Whilst I dont think most dream of achieving that fake quote I do think most look back to the good old times before the black death (in western Europe and later in Eastern) where the peasants could be kept in their place providing cash to their overlords.

So her seat was lost to Labour, Johnson’s old seat went to Labour ( just), May’s old seat went to Liberal Democrat. Another fact that my brother told me was that there are now no Tory mp’s in Oxfordshire which he thinks is first since the 1770’s. Quite astonishing

At what point could anyone think she's the leader this country needs? I can see how Cameron, May and Johnson had an appeal to an element of the party/country, but she has no redeeming features. At all.

That's beautiful. So much more effective that getting all shouty. Do you think she'll go away if humiliated enough - somehow I doubt it.

To be mildly serious for a moment - if you had the remotest interest in knocking off an ex prime minister (and I'm not sure quite why you'd want to bother in her case), if you can hide that within feet of where you know she's going to sit, you could have hidden a bomb too. Do ex pms, even bloody useless ones, get post job security for life?

Edited to add. And the interviewer on stage with her. Dressed for the occasion. And got his hands in his pockets whilst sitting down, which is pretty impressive.....unless it was him with the remote control and was in on it.

Everything about that sums up Lizzie's place in the world. Her 'event' in what looks like a church hall, an audience in single figures and once again upstaged by a lettuce

Beautiful!

She can't even string a sentence together! She starts talking, pauses a bit, goes off on a tangent, forgets where she was or what she was talking about (as well as quite possibly "who she is" and "what she is doing there") and just sort of fades out with a few words unrelated to anything previously.

Her stream-of-consciousness drivel is like a combination of Donald Trump and a small child going "Mummy, look a sheep... I want crisps, mummy... why is that lady fat... and can we go to the moon tomorrow mummy?"

Thought she had an "answer" to her critics on the economy.  What an opportunity to tell the basketball team in the hall about how looting a nation would boost growth and.....  (rest of BS here).     That is not just ideologically obscene, but an example of an unprofessional, rubbish, very poor politician.

Any party who thought she was an acceptable leadership candidate should disband itself.

Considering she pretty much crashed the UK economy to give Kwasi's mates a one-way bet, I don't really care what she thinks.

I wish she'd just go away. But there's no possibility of that given her colossal arrogance. So stuff like this will keep happening.

But there’s no possibility of that given her colossal arrogance.

So long as there's a cadre of dodgy tax and regulation-averse billionaires happy to throw money at anyone happy to sell the 'Small government, low taxes, no regulation', anarcho capitalist message to the public there will be a conga line of grifters and chancers queuing up to cash in.

The trouble is Truss is so utterly discredited as a messenger that not even the Peter Thiels, Robert Mercers, Chris Chandlers, Crispin Odeys and Koch Brothers of this world think she's worth the expenditure.

It's just a bit embarrassing that such a forlorn figure was ever our PM.

Back in October 2022 I was at a wedding of some close friends, and overheard some of the guests (who it must be said, were of the older generation from me and I'm hardly young being an older millennial myself) saying things like 'I think she's doing a pretty good job'. I didn't interject because a) wedding and b) I had a 2 month old baby strapped to me that I was hoping would stay asleep but it really drove home how even though on the outside they look like reasonable people who are friends/relatives of people with similar values to me, in some ways we could not be more different.

Yeah I've got a friend like that, you couldn't of had a more cosmopolitan guest list at his wedding, people coming or sending messages from all over the world and all sections of society, but he's still an avid Ukip, Brexit & Reform supporting Scot living in southern england ?

True. I once had a cab ride to Heathrow from a Polish driver that had been in the UK since he left (very quickly as it turned out) when the Soviets were clamping down heavily on the Solidarity movement. The guy was very UKIP and anti-immigrant, mainly because he thought that the new generation arriving just did not contribute anything to society.

I was, well, a bit shocked.

What happened last night was not funny. Far-left activists disrupted the event, which then had to be stopped for security reasons. This is done to intimidate people and suppress free speech. I won't stand for it. Would we see the same reaction if the activists were far-right?

I don't think she's humiliated. Humiliation requires you to know that you were wrong and it's been pointed out to you in front of others within your peer group (who have subsequently ridiculed you). She genuinely believes she was right all along and that it's only the despicable intervention of the far-left loonies that kept her from achieving greatness. I don't think she's got the self-awareness to know she's being ridiculed.

She's off-the-charts deluded, in fact probably certifiably psychotic (delusional disorder being a form of psychosis). Trump is similar - believing himself to be the greatest ever, the best, the most intelligent.

I think she's may be more delusional than Trump. Much as I hate her for what she did, and it's easy to ridicule her now, she seems so far out of touch with the world I genuinely think there may be a medical issue and I feel pity as much as anger.

Let's face it, the remote controlled banner was amusing but what really made it was her reaction.

Saying, "that's not funny" is guaranteed to make it funny and then having a tantrum and stomping off stage just compounds it.

Oh, this is the beating heart of the Truss Empire it seems, where she held her, erm, huge rally". 😀

Imagine being a PM then going on stage here to your adoring crowd...

I don't feel embarrassed at all.

I've never voted conservative and never will. I'm not part of her party and despise the party members that voted for her and everything they stand for.

She will hopefully remain (pun intended given her volte face) a dull unreflective low wattage beacon to warn how close this country came in capitulating to unrestrained unregulated market forces.

I genuinely feel that if we hadn't had our lettuce moment then we might not have been where we are today with actual politicians in charge. They might not be socialists but they aren't grifters either.

Is she ill, a psychopath, deluded or is it just a bit more simple? She is grifting. Just earning her money and falling down the same right wing pay day rabbit hole as Brand, Hopkins, Fox etc. She has to feed the paying trolls as where else is she going to earn her income?

I think it's a combination. Doesn't help that she is as thick as mince - should never have been let near running a bath never mind being allowed to run the country. Hopelessly out of her depth, she tried to create growth in the economy by giving the rich a tax cut using economic theories discredited since the 80’s. She's too stupid to understand how stupid she is and is now in a situation (entirely of her own making) where her own psychological makeup / wellbeing cannot allow her to admit the truth, namely, that she was exposed as being thick on an international and historical level.

There's an interesting interview with Kwarsi Kwarteng on the Newsagents podcast this week. They have a discussion about Truss, it's quite enlightening. He says at one point of her "She lacked the ability to read a room"

For that matter, it's interesting hearing the opinions of Kwarteng also, offered the choice of vote between Harris (very left wing according to him) and Trump, he still chooses Trump, despite that fact that I think he recognises how that sounds...The compartmentalisation is quite astonishing. He recognises that he'll be forever known for the mini-budget and the events surrounding it, but still thinks it was a good plan...Denies the effect of Eton and private education in general, and that politics is a game for him, and then uses, casually, a sporting reference to talk about parliament later on.

Kwarteng and Truss had an affair so that says pretty much everything you need to know about his judgement.

On a related note, I'm sure that the two of them locked up in Chequers for a long weekend of economic planning and mini-budgeting was entirely about work and didn't at any stage involve a coke-fuelled shagathon.

She has always come across as being more than a bit thick. When she was environment minister she turned up at some floods (Somerset levels?) and expressed her surprised at how wet it was. It was obviously just another photo shoot for her.

Her poor Dad must be so embarrassed. He's a maths Prof at Leeds yet his demonic offspring has occupational dyscalculia, not real dyscalculia, but the kind where the numbers are hard so she cannot process them despite her self-declared love for numbers.

Kwarteng comes across as one of the most arrogant and delusional people in the world imo. Genuinely thinks that he's more intelligent than basically anyone else on the planet. His arguements around economics and social issues are totally incoherent, he just delivers them with the confidence that an Eton education brings.

On Truss, I've thought for some time that she is suffering from some form of mental health issue and as someone who has suffered from them myself in the past, it's not something that I throw out there lightly.

His arguements around economics and social issues are totally incoherent, he just delivers them with the confidence that an Eton education brings.

Jacob Rees-Mogg was very similar, in fact he almost admitted as much across several interviews that he more or less read and remembered quotes from the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations and reeled them off at appropriate moments.

Classic Eton thing where the aim of the game is to win the argument, even if you're wrong. It's a combination of debating skills (which Truss doesn't have) and an unshakeable belief that you're right (and a genius) which she has in spades.

If you can add those two ingredients into a posh voice, some pithy Latin quotations and an ability to talk down at the poor people (which both Rees-Mogg and Boris Johnson has by the bucket load), you're onto a winner.

Part of the failure of Truss was because she only had one of those ingredients. Boris would have bullshitted and blustered his way out of it.

I know someone who worked a bit with Kwarteng when he was business development minister. Apparently he had a habit in meetings of telling industry experts why they were wrong when their facts disagreed with his opinions.

Next up: Cancelling air because it's too expensive to breathe. At this rate, even oxygen might need a budget review!

I read the independent article that links to and for anyone that hasn't, there are a few more "oh, wow" moments in there!

There's a bit more from the book in the Guardian report, and another source claims that it was actually the Treasury who came up with "stop cancer treatment" idea (rather than Truss) to try and illustrate to Truss how extreme the cutbacks would have to be to fund her tax breaks. So the headline seems to be a slightly misleading representation of what actually happened.

Of  course this does not change the fact that Truss is an incompetent and dangerous loose cannon who should never be in a position of responsibility again.

I am still astonished how little is said about the obvious cocaine usage.  Are all the journalists at it as well?
