Who, in your opinion, is a legend who also has the benefit of being alive?
Any nationality, any walk of life, famous or not, whoever! Include a short reason for their inclusion if you feel it's nessacery.
My nomination is Brian Blessed for being Brian Blessed.
BRIAN'S ALIVE!!!
David Attenborough
My boss. Built a company up from nothing to being reasonably successful whilst actually and genuinely giving a shit about his staff. Known him 20 years and working for him for 12 of those and he’s been far more of a role model/father figure to me than my own dad ever was.
Stephen Fry
Mick Jagger
Paul McCartney
Michael Caine
Carl Cox
LTJ Bukem - invented a whole sub genre of music.
Not Brian Blessed, how anyone can have so much adoration for shouting is being me.
I do agree with Houns. Thunberg another.
David Hockney
Guy Martin
Quentin Blake
Joe Cocker
@cynic-al - a friend who's a mountain guide guided Brian Blessed on Everest. Said that he was ebullient but not overbearing. Also reckoned that for someone who wasn't "naturally" a climber he did pretty well and could mostly look after himself unlike some of the others who needed waiting on hand and foot.
I'll go with David Attenborough as well.
Marcus Rashford

Yeah cause he's has such a wasteful life... Blessed became the oldest person to climb Mount Everest to 28,500ft without oxygen. He is also the oldest to reach the magnetic North Pole on foot.
Shortly before his 80th birthday, he became a fully qualified cosmonaut, having caught the attention of Nasa. He completed 800 hours of space training at Star City, Moscow.
He works with organisations such as Born Free and has rescued everything from stray cats to wildcats, as documented in his recent book The Panther in my Kitchen.
Sparred with the Dalai Lama and so much more
He has my vote.
Sam Hill.

Exactly my take. BB is quite an amazing guy, but I wouldn't want to be stuck in a lift with him.
You know that thing actors do where they pretend to be different to how they are in real life?
What's the betting BB doesn't shout all the time when he's off-duty?
Plus he was in Flash Gordon, Starwars, Blackadder and Peppa Pig! What a range! 😂
WCA - Legend for egotistic self promotion
Graeme Obree.
I wouldn’t want to be stuck in a lift with him.
I doubt he takes the lift 🙂
George Foreman. If you don't know why, watch
Michael Palin
Stephen Fry
Greta Thunberg
Simon Reeves
Chris Packham
saw his one man show a couple of years ago. The guy is the very definition of joie de vivre. I can see why he would not be appreciated by some of the miserable sods on here 🤣Not Brian Blessed, how anyone can have so much adoration for shouting is being me.
****ing panicked when I saw that other thread this morning!!
Buzz Aldrin
Seconding Michael Palin, Marcus rashford, David Attenborough and Chris packham.
Boris Johnson (edit sorry I thought you said living bellend)
Billy Connolly
Tony Hawk
Reinhold Messner
Lionel Messi
Cristiano Ronaldo
What’s the betting BB doesn’t shout all the time when he’s off-duty?
Especially given the number of times he’s been with others in very remote inhospitable locations, with no one else around...
Cozy Powell.
I thought Mr Powell was brown bread?
The Black prowler of Wishaw
The Black prowler of Wishaw
Leg ends. Not bell ends
Mat Hoffman
Dave Jones, joined Newbury Road club in 1948 and still going strong now age 90 1/2 !!

Barak Obama. I’ve been fortunate enough to be in his presence during a couple of speeches and it’s incredible.
Nick Clegg for the same reasons and because he put country before politics.
Cozy Powell died in 1998!
I got completely giggly when I met Andrew Shandro...
Ian Mackaye

Horace Andy

Tony Hawk
You've spelled Rodney Mullen wrong. It's okay a lot of people do this.
I second Brian Blessed, more to the man than just shouting.
While I've no idea what he is like away from the camera, Sir David Attenborough.
From the world of cycling, perhaps Sir Chris Boardman.

Blake, is that you?
Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes
John Williams.
Bob Dylan.
Lenny Kravitz.
More musicians!?
Billy Cogan?
Brian May?

Cozy Powell died in 1998!
Yeah. But Joe Cocker was taken.
Sir Steve Redgrave
I know Hoy beat his gold record, but SSR had to do it over 5 separate Olympics, there's no doubling or tripling up in rowing.
Marcus Rashford has already been mentioned. At 23 he’s achieved an incredible amount already, but looks like a man on a mission who’s only just getting started.
Just need him to come up with the goods tonight and get us the three points to go joint top with Liverpool. He does tend to deliver in big games.
And while we’re on the subject of proper legends who also happen to play for Man Yoo....

Daley Thompson
Pele
John Williams
Schumacher
Clint Eastwood
While I’ve no idea what he is like away from the camera, Sir David Attenborough.
I know I’m in a minority but I can’t stand him.
I used to like Attenborough before he sold out to Netflix, seems wrong somehow.
You’ve spelled Rodney Mullen wrong. It’s okay a lot of people do this.
For me, massive vert tricks will always trump riding around on your hands or whatever, but each to their own 😛
Also - I've met Tony Hawk, so he wins.
Neil Young
Lenny Kravitz ? Lol!

Reinhold Messner is a bit lacking in the 'living' part of this particular thread! Definitely one of the best ever mountaineers!
He's not dead is he?!
Alive
Steven Spielberg seems to be one of life’s higher achievers.
Shit sorry.....confusing Messner and Boukreev in my mind for some reason!!! In which case, great shout!
Rashford and thunberg a good shout
What about MTB there are loads!
Hans Rey
Steve Pete
John Tomac
Missy Giove
Etc
Probably a golden age for living legends in MTB right now. It'll wane as the sport ages.
Matt Hoffman.
Pushed a sport to new areas, pushed the bikes basically made BMX what it is.
Linus Torvalds. Runs the Linux kernel development and pretty much started Linux. Used on more devices than any other operating system.
Dam right Lenny Kravitz. He plays every instrument going, he writes, he sings, he rocks and he's basically just cool as ****.
Trying to think of any legendary comedians left alive.. Peter Kay!
What about authors?!🤔
Ian Botham is an absolute bell end!
Nick Craig.
Ian Botham is an absolute bell end!
true, but is still a legend.
Trying to think of any legendary comedians left alive.. Peter Kay!
Wha? Each to their own and Phoenix Nights was great but his stand up is basically just reminiscing. Stewart Lee would take the comedy crown for me. At least he has something to say.
For MTB or just biked I’m general it’s Chris Akrigg. Just makes everything look so simple and seems to absolutely love what he’s doing.
Trying to think of any legendary comedians left alive.
He’s already been mentioned, but Billy Connolly definitely fits the bill.
Wha? Each to their own and Phoenix Nights was great but his stand up is basically just reminiscing
His older stuff is still funny though. I watched some old routines from comics around at the same time. Stuff I found funny at the time has dated horribly, even turned cringey. I still howl at the top of the tower/Bolton Albert halls DVDs, as did MrsTH, who was new to them this time round.
Comedy?
Mel Brooks.
Barack Obama. He just has it all, a true legendary human.
Surely Michelle Obama qualifies too?
Anyway... let’s take a moment to look at how unreadably cool this is...
Eric Cantona was a brilliant player in a great United team of the time but for me the real legend was Sir Alex Furguson. His domination of the top of English football was incredible and I’m fairly sure will never be surpassed.
Schumacher
Hasn't been seen alive since before Joe Cocker died.
Disappointing lack of the fairer sex.
Emma Thompson
Mary Berry
Kylie
Tracey Moseley
Judi Dench.
Jim Lovell
Disappointing lack of the fairer sex.
Maebe A. Girl
Nick Clegg for the same reasons and because he put country before politics.
Errrmmm - he put party before country, joined a disastrous coalition with the tories, destroyed his party and then ran off to take the facebook shilling to act as a fig leaf for them
the epitome of a self serving opportunist
Disappointing lack of the fairer sex.
Taylor Swift and Amanda Shires for musicians from me. Jacinda Ardern, just because she’s what a politician should be imo.
Marcus Radford has done alot of good and I'm sure is a fashionable choice, but a living legend?? Hardly.
He achieved bugger all as a footballer so far (relative to other footballers), and whilst his campaigning for free school meals is great (and very well publicised), I'm struggling to see that makes him a living legend.
Whoever said Tony Hawk, id agree with..
My personal choice, Keith Richards..
I’m not getting Tony Hawk. Even he talks about Rodney Mullen in his own biography. Rodney pretty much invented modern street skateboarding and all the tricks. I think my opinion of Tony Hawk has been tainted by watching The Pappas Brothers documentary on Netflix 😕
Greg Minaar
Sir Alex Ferguson
Jay Adams
Toyah Wilcox - since the youtube channel 🙂
