MCJnr and his g/f are extending their options for somewhere to live, not being impressed by value for money in Sutton Coldfield, and are looking at Rugby.
Gives them easy access to Birmingham New Street and the airport by train for work, so wanting to be within a mile of the station.
Any insider knowledge?
to rent or to buy?
if it's a mile radius from the station that's needed, I suggest looking to the large residential area of Brownsover, to the north of Rugby.
- Town is dire outskirts are good hilmorton ect
It's to rent while they sort themselves out.
Your better off renting on the fringe of the town coton park area is very rental friendly newish houses 10years and younger short ride to the station and m6 /A5 minutes away
I lived near(ish) to Rugby and have worked there a lot. It’s more expensive than you think. There are lots of commuters live there, both for Birmingham and Stations to London. Dont even think about renting a flat on Gavel Drive. I worked on those blocks of flats, they are awful flats. Rugby itself is now a bit downbeat, lots of closed shops etc just like many other small English towns. If its temporary, and they are just using it for a base to stay, then it’s not too bad, there are a lot worse places to be.If they have a car, make sure there is parking close by, as many Rugby streets are terraced, with a lack of on street parking. Oh, traffic can be awful. If ever the M6 is shut around there, it is gridlock, getting to the M6 in rush hour can be a long time too, with just normal traffic.
theres a great cycle route to the nicer parts of warwickshire via Draycote water from Rugby 😉
Agree with above that brownsover makes sense for close to the station and right side of town. The bit with the flats looks the most shifty part of rugby but it's nicer further out. Prices are fairly high because of access to London commuting, but comparatively when we bought our new build five years ago the developer was selling exactly the same house in Kenilworth for 30% more.
I like it here, it's a lot like the Black Country town I grew up in (lots of Black Country Breweries pubs too) though my city-raised wife has struggled with the lack of multiculturalism and there's an NF-type mob around that have caused our kids some trouble in school. It's got noticeably more mixed in the time we've been here though, so things are looking up.
One side note: getting back from brum after a night out is a real pig. Whilst you can get back to cov until 2am ish it's then a thirty quid taxi at least as the buses don't run late. Last time I went to a gig at the Hare and Hounds (kings heath) I had to leave just as the main band was setting up so I didn't miss the last train and still didn't get home till half twelve, so now I drive in and have to stay sober 😢
The big iffy block of flats is getting knocked down or has been. As above the late train from brum/cov is stupidity early go to a show or gig and it's a foot race to the station.
In fairness rugby only gets a 4/10 on my scare meter even the shitty bits. And after today at work brum is on 7/10.
I meant the low rise blocks round by brownsover medical centre, but yes I agree: there's nowhere in this town I'd be particularly bothered about walking around at night. That's why we moved out here from cov, we can let the kids go out at night without worrying *too* much.
Drugby, we call it down the road in Leamington.
It's got some nice bits and some not so nice. Like most towns.
Could be worse.
You had to say it didn't you DRUGBY lol.
Lads girlfriend has been in Leamington for three years, he's been in Cambridge, everywhere looks a bit "Drugby" at first!
