Fancy a trip to Liverpool at the weekend, apart from shopping what activities can folks suggest for 2 adults, a baby and a 5yr old? Thinking of staying over near Bootle and going to formby beach on monday so just after activities for sunday afternoon when it will be possibly raining. Doesn't have to be centre as we'll have a car of course.
Thanks

You could drop in to Crosby beach on your way to / back from Formby on the Monday to see the Antony Gormly installation. It is very impressive (IMHO) but the beach is non-descript. At Formby there are a lot of good walks taking in the dunes, pinewoods and beach. Sling for the ween would be helpful as a pram over the sand is a bit of a ballache.

The World museum in Liverpool centre is pretty good but will be rammed full of bored kids and end-of-their-tether parents.

Take them in the Blob Shop while you have a pint. They'll be teetotal for the rest of their lives!!!

yup, was thinking sling based activties. The only reason I was looking at Formby was because it's national trust (free parking for members!) and I like the contrast of woodland and beach and since we live in staffs it's a chance to let the little girl do some sand digging this year. Is there any beaches in the area that are more traditional seaside with amusements and tuppeny falls?
likely staying in a premier inn.

Southport or New Brighton for trad seaside experience. The sea goes out miles at Southport though so might need the right timing if you want to even see it.

There's nothing at Formby beach aside from an ice-cream van in the summer, the NT have kept it wild. Recommend it though, it's quite a beautiful place.

When I was living there, if it wasn't bolted down it was nicked, if it was bolted, they had a spanner... 😯

this was the early 90's and Toxteth... 😆

excellent, plan then: Southport sun afternoon for amusements & fish n chips so won't matter too much if it's raining. Formby monday for the wild beach before home in the late afternoon so Daddy can go out on his bike in the evening. Cheers folks.

If you're going to Southport theres a decent play area for kids just down from Funland on the prom, near the crazy golf and miniature village.

Jekyll some decent trails in formby ,no ascents but flowing
where are they hiding then?

I'm a Toxteth boy born and bred. It was no worse for theivery than any other poor part of a city. It's always had a reputation which has preceded it. In its defense, when you are growing up poor and uneducated in one of the poorest parts of Europe, your chances are pretty dire (I'm referring to the 70's and 80's here). Add being black on top of that and you have no hope at all as it was a pretty racist society back then.

Nowadays Toxteth is nowhere near what it once was, there are much much worse places in this city now. Plus I'm glad I was brought up there as it's made me not grow up with many prejudices. Black kids growing up in Toxteth back then had it tougher than just about everyone.

Ah local trails for local people. As it happens I am a local. Would be up for a ride one Sunday morning if you want to share the knowledge.
