Help me make my 13yr old son happy.

I have tickets to Liverpool vs Watford for my sons birthday as he is a huge fan. The match is on over Paddys weekend (March 17th but time/date is released on thursday)and we are flying in from Ireland. Was looking at getting a Premier Inn for 1 or 2 nights but these seem full (airport still has places) so any suggestions on where is good to stay in the city centre?

Also any tips an what to see and do when there, getting to from match etc. I was thinking on a stadium tour/trip to the lfc museum, may be eating at the boot room cafe? What else is a must?
Cheers

No idea as I'm a Newcastle fan and a good few miles up the country ..but from what you have written this sounds very much like it's his first visit ?
If so ..have a brilliant day and I'm sure it's one he will never forget .
Oh ..a win would also be good if Watford are still within 3pts of us and relegation still a threat 😀

Cheers. Yep, first visit Hodgy, and maybe the last as the cost stack up, 2xtickets, 2×flights, hotel, food etc etc. Actually tried for Liverpool vs Newcastle (have a soft spot for them myself) but no joy. I hope, for his sake, he sees some goals vs Watford, but new manager today, who knows.

There are plenty of hotels centrally, however, some a little further out are less likely to be full and the cabs are pretty cheap. I stayed at the Marriott which is near Lime St and is central, a few weeks ago, and it was pretty cheap. Match day I suggest you get to Anfield early and soak up the atmosphere, visit the shop, perhaps book on a stadium tour - which is really cool.

Enjoy and COYR's

We stayed in a place called Euro Hostel, It was actually very good for budget accommodation despite being full of stag parties.

Brilliant city, Albert dock and area around Tate Liverpool are great, Baltic triangle is great for food, (nice pizzas etc for the young 'un) the royal standard has great art that he may like , a bit more cutting edge. Otherwise matchday is fantastic. I'm a little jealous

I've stayed in the Hampton a lot a couple of years ago. Good clean rooms, breakfast included and within easy walking distance of the city centre and docks.
It'd be my hotel of choice if I was ever to be going back.

If you do stay out a bit - we are normally last minute and end up at Prem Inns 6/7 miles away, book the cab EARLY!!

Never stayed in Liverpool (live nearby).

It's a fantastic city - as howsyourdad1 says, there are some great things to see and do. And I love the Baltic Market (@ Baltic Triangle/Cains brewery site).

There are def some museums worth visiting with kids: the World Museum has an upcoming exhibition on the Terracotta Warriors. Am going to take my daughter. The Museum of Liverpool down by the water on the Albert Dock is also pretty engaging.

Depending on your preferences, the cathedrals are both worth a visit - and they're both up the hill (and near each other) so you get good views over the city. They're both in a nice part of the city as well.

And obviously the football, but as Tottenham supporter I can take or leave the whole red/blue thing..!

There's tons of hotels in the city, get on late rooms etc and have a look, various levels of budget and amenities. I'd try and stay as close to the city centre as possible, it'll work out better as a base. Campanile or YHA on the Strand might be worth a look.
I was born and brought up in the city, now work there but live outside, so I'm a bit biased, oh and a reds fan, the city is great, brilliant people, loads of history and things to see/do but nothing will top match day at Anfield!
Taxis are cheap but look at the Mersey Travel website for train and bus options
http://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/Pages/Welcome.aspx

On the travel point, take a trip on the Mersey Ferry, nice little trip and the view from the river gives the best view of the cities waterfront too.
Have a great trip and lets hope for 3 points too.

Thanks, some good ideas. I will take a look at Albert dock and I like the sound of the baltic triangle. The ferry is a great idea too, had not thought of that.
Cheers. YNWA.... 😉

The hotels near the airport still have rooms?

You've been to Speke, right?

[img] [/img]

Oh... and unless you do something Beatles related they won't let you leave 😉

Seriously though... you'll have a great time. Theres loads to do in Liverpool. if you're going to get the ferriiiieeeeeeeee cos dee Meeeeeeeeeeersey then take him to have a look at the U-Boat. They've got the original Enigma machines and everything. Its really interesting

Try The Shankly Hotel. If your reds fans. It's busy but lots of memoriabilia on the walls be chocablock on match days. Get a cab close to the ground then join the crowds, more fun walking in than sitting in a cab. Come on you blues!

There is a Premier Inn in the Albert Docks:

https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels/england/merseyside/liverpool/liverpool-city-centre-albert-dock.html

That's also a great area to stay for Liverpool 1 shopping, the Maritime Museum with the Museum of Slavery and the Titanic exhibition, both excellent for kids and very poignant.

+1 for the Albert dock Premier inn. Baltic Fleet pub not far too, great crack and beer in there. In fact the whole Baltic Triangle bit is great.

Parking might be a problem since the car park burned down the the week

+1 for Museum of Liverpool too. on the Pier Head.
