Working through dinner and still a few more hours go.

Goo Goo Dolls - Iris, Name
Gin Blossoms - hey jealousy
Smashing Pumpkins - 1979
STP - Interstate Love Song
Brand - Buttercup
The Verve Pipe - The Freshmen

I'm getting old and reflective.

Probably the decade that most of my favourite music comes from 🙂 So I can't even start at a list, just send me to Donington 94 and I'll be good thanks

Donington 1994 now that was a really really good day out (eclipsed by 95 marginally).

I think it was 96, and I found myself outside a theatre in Seattle and the Smashing Pumpling were inside on there Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness tour. Sold out of course and they were big into anti scalping. There must have been hundreds of us outside on the pavement and street soaking up what was leaking out.

Choon. Saw them in 93/94ish with MartynS of this Parish at Manchester Uni.

One of my favourite Simpsons episodes, at Homerpalooza with Smashing Pumpkins:

Lisa: It may be bleak, but this music is really getting to the crowd.
Bart: Ah, making teenagers depressed is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Prodigy at V97 Leeds.
They were touring Fat of the Land. The bass was sublime! It's one of my happy places that day... 🙂

Carried it on today - listening to live versions on youtube.

Down the side shoot rabbit hole:

Presidents of the United Sates of America - Peaches
King Missile - Detachable P*nis

Gotta get back on track....

I saw the Gin Blossoms at the Barras, supporting the Spin Doctors. Then a year or two later saw the Smashing Pumpkins at the SECC. There were loads of fairly young kids there and I think the band had to stop for a while as the crush was so bad at the front. I thought someone was going to die that night. One of the louder gigs I've been at too. I then moved down to East Yorkshire and saw Ocean Colour Scene and Portishead at Bridlington Spa, the Portishead gig was one of the best, I remember Beth spending ages signing autographs (remember those!) from the stage at the end. I spent most of my money on CD's rather than going to gigs back then.

One of my favourite Simpsons episodes, at Homerpalooza with Smashing Pumpkins:

Homer meets Billy from Smashing Pumpkins..

Billy holding out his hand, "Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins"
Homer. "Err, Homer Simpson, smiling politely."

One of my favourite unusable quotes.

Saw Nirvana at Reading 91 (what a bill btw, remember having gone to see Silverfish and the Senseless Things but Iggy was a bonus and Dino Jr were meant to be good. Don’t remember Iggy though because LSD), was in a crap punk band at the time and we nicked a few of their songs for our set and never told anyone they weren’t ours because it’s not like they were going to be big or anything 😂

Went to see Wat Tyler at Wigan Cricketers Club in 1992? Supported by a band called Green Day. They seemed good, bought their 7” and saw them the following Xmas where they randomly performed a Nativity play. Next time I saw them was at the Astoria or somewhere and the rest is history.

Orbital at Glastonbury, whenever that was.

Reading in ‘95, I think it was, and this was the main stage lineup:

Friday
The Smashing Pumpkins
Green Day
Hole
Teenage Fanclub
Beck
dEUS
Juliana Hatfield
China Drum

Saturday
Björk
Paul Weller
The Boo Radleys
Tricky
Throwing Muses
Shed Seven
Corduroy
Little Axe
Skunk Anansie
James Hall

Sunday
Neil Young
Soundgarden
Pavement
Mudhoney
Buffalo Tom
Babes in Toyland
White Zombie
Blind Melon
Pennywise
I did miss Foo Fighters on the Melody Maker stage, they were on at the same time as Björk. I also saw a band called Star 69 on the Carlsberg stage, who I really enjoyed, managed to get hold of their album, but they never recorded another, sadly.
The 90’s were a good decade for live music, I’ll try to dig out some lists I made of who I saw later.
