Off to Lisbon for a friends birthday.
Just wondered if anyone has any little gems they wish to share, from amazing views or places to visit, disheveled ancient bars and the best (cheap) seafood.
Don’t be shy, even an amazing drum and base club could go on the list.
Not a big lads lads lads type of affair just four of us, but we are looking to go out out for two days.
Head to the Mirador de Santa Caterina just an hour before sunset, grab a beer from the stall and find somewhere to park yourself to watch the sun going down.
That’s the type of thing, thanks.
Easy to get to the coast, Portugese trains are scruffy but very cheap and usually on time, we could learn a lot from them!
Hire a surfboard (with or without instructor depending on how good you are) Best surfing I've ever done was about two hours south of Lisbon.
....and should you wish to do a bit of biking Weride do guided night riding in the city - sounds good, theyre a good bunch - I rode with them in Sintra which is about 50 minutes out on the train. Sintra is well worth a visit too, the landscaped gardens, follies and grottos at Quinta da regaliera are wonderful:
I'm a fan of the LX Factory and the Timeout Food Hall.
You could even get a mornings surfing in with surfbus who will pick you up and drop you off.
I second Quinta da regaliera, and the area is lovely, but between it and the train it's going to take up a whole day if you're staying centrally.

It’s quite central, 3 streets behind the Finance Ministry. Is Baixa an area, if it is, it’s there.
We won’t have time for surfing or proper riding, but a bike tour might be nice.
The guidebooks will suggest a bordello type bar called Pensao Amor - it'll be rammed with other tourists and the drinks are awful. About two doors away is a place called O Bom O Mau e O Vilao. It's in a house, essentially, is chilled out with good music and drinks and is much nicer than the other place.
Thanks snowy1.
Exactly the kind of info we need.
Go for a drink on the terrace at Memmo Alfama hotel. It’s only a quiet place but worth it for the view if you’re in the area.
Yeah I guess your after less time consuming stuff.....
Museu do aljube Resistencia e Liberdade is about the resistance during the military rule - eye opening and uplifting.
Wander around the Alfama (old town bit) the Miraduoro de Santa Luzia is a nice place to hang out. Its a nice city for wandering about.

Thanks AF
Cheers GB that sounds ideal, and those gardens sound great.
Any really run down little bars or music venues, full of locals?
There’s way too much to see and do in two days ! Such a great city; here’s a few ideas:
Central Lisbon is spread across seven hills and the city is dotted with miradouros/viewpoints. In the Principe district, there’s the miradouro de Sao Pedro de Alcantara: looking east to the Castelo de Sao Jorge and south to the vast River Tagus. From there, you could head into Bairro Alto and/or Chiado. Bairro Alto is the best district for 'locals' restaurants, small, late-night bars and music - whilst Chiado has been the trendy neighbourhood since the late 1980s – old bookshops, coffee houses and big department stores.
Dropping down to the river, there's the downtown Baixa Pompalina district and the Praca do Comercio – some nice restaurants down there but a bit more touristy than in Bairro Alto. Heading east there's Alfama – Lisbon’s oldest district which has a nice medieval layout (which is easier to appreciate from above if you visit the Miradouro Portas do Sol first). Alfama also has the highest concentration of Fado restaurants.
If you’re into history, you could take a tram out to Belem - the Number 15 (which is one of the modern trams rather than the small wooden variety). In theory you can buy a ticket from the on-board machine whilst in transit. In practise, it’s a pain in the bum when the tram’s quite crowded. It’s easier to purchase an all-day unlimited ticket for just under 7€ from the Metro Station on Rossio Square. Once you have your ticket, cross over to the Praca da Figueira (the square just next door to Rossio) – the Number 15 tram begins its journey from Figueira so it’s normally quite easy to get a seat. In Belem, there’s the 16th Century Jerónimos Monastery (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Museu de Marinha (Lisbon’s naval museum), the Museu do Combatente (the military museum) the Torre de Belém and the Padrao dos Descobrimentos (or ‘Monument to the Discoveries’).
Food-wise, the Time Out Food Court is a good option www.timeoutmarket.com/lisboa/en - it’s in the old Mercado da Ribeira just across from Cais do Sodres train station. If you want somewhere more expensive, try Bairro do Avillez.
EDIT: sorry, just noted you're staying downtown (Baixa). Most bars/restaurants close down around midnight (or earlier this time of year) - @38.7142877,-9.1445838,17z/am=t/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0xd1933875c6762ed:0x483ad88c98affaf!2m2!1d-9.1384608!2d38.7139973!1m5!1m1!1s0xd19348002b3abfb:0xbafe2a3ba260d0f1!2m2!1d-9.1462951!2d38.7127532!3e2">Bairro Alto is the place to go if you want late-night food/drinks.
Parkedtiger, you are a gent. Thank you for going to so much trouble.
I love Lisbon. Bairro Alto really lively and nice atmosphere but doesn't get going until midnight/1am really
