Prefer Unforgotten

I'm really enjoying this.
I'm sure LoD will get better - it needs to.

I thought the male copper bag carrying for the senior woman copper was 'son of Dot'. I swear if you close your eyes it's Dot talking. Maybe there's some sort of channeling going on and it'll get all mystic with Steve reading the tarot cards.

Regarding 'the tape' AC12 has flashier fish bowl interview rooms that are easier to shoot up, the interviews in this episode were just in some skanky cop shop so maybe 'the tape' will come back with the fishbowls. They certainly have more ipads and tellies and remember Hastings is more old skool than Flavor Flav so he'd still be using tapes to record Corrie.

Agree the acting was a bit pov.

As for the gang yoof signing up for the police, if that's a testament to H and the tie up between gangs and police you'd assume it was a longer game than having him pop up all corrupt in the next season when he's waving down cars to check MOTs. I doubt he'll have made inspector yet.

Not the fastest pace to an episode one, nor any shock ending.

But will strap myself in and prepare for the ride.

Did smile a lot when they mentioned AC-6 and AC-9. Just how many bent coppers are there? Presumably the AC units can man-mark every officer in the force 😉

I'm on the fence.

I wanted to enjoy it but it all felt a bit forced and rushed. This kind of summed it up to me:

Kelly Mcdonald. I can't get past Trainspotting every time she speaks... her voice hasn't changed one iota.

Diane: Do you find that this approach usually works? Or let me guess, you’ve never tried it before. In fact, you don’t normally approach girls — am I right? The truth is that you’re a quiet sensitive type but, if I’m prepared to take a chance, I might just get to know the inner you. Taxi! A little bit crazy, a little bit bad. But hey — don’t us girls just love that?
Renton: Eh?
Diane:Well, what’s wrong boy — cat got your tongue?...

Really, I thought she was the best thing about it. Admittedly I watch under duress with my Wife.

She can do other voices, but this is her own. She was fantastic in 'No Country for Old Men' and 'Boardwalk Empire'.

I'm made to watch it too, as part of the 'Quality time together initiative' Funny how it never applies to things I like.
Looked on here to see if there was much chance of improvement, or at least an ending but I'm not hopefull.

Presuming you're talking about all the TLAs and other abbreviations I really enjoy them - the police use them all the time but they're dialled up to 11 in LoD as a bit of a piss-take.

I am not saying she is a bad actor, I am saying I don't like her acting in this - I want to because I like her, but something about her character just isn't convincing me.

something about her character just isn’t convincing me.

I assumed she was playing a character who is emotionally stilted and a bit aloof and remote.

I was getting the vibe of a decent actor playing a slightly odd person rather than a bad actor failing to play a normal person.

Well the thing is, I didn't get that from her performance at all. I thought Keely Hawes played *that* character very well in an earlier series but I wasn't convinced about KM - she just came across a bit stilted and appeared to be struggling to get the personality of the character across. IMO. #wearealldifferent.

Vicky McClure - D I Kate Fleming....just doesn't work for me... too stilted, not natural, whatever.

This current series...maybe okish but massively overhyped.

Watched episode one. Does it get better?

Has Fleming actually left the AC unit or is she undercover?
Why did she not recognise Terry?
Will any of that matter?
Should Steve's beard go?
Why did Hastings not get more screen time?

Too much CHIS.

Anyway, Owen Teale is H.

Why did she not recognise Terry?

....because she's never met him. Terry's only interaction with the police was being fobbed off by a couple of uniformed constables who couldn't understand him when he tried to tell them he was being abused.

I think the kid copper recognition thing will be a theme for a bit until Steve sees him. 2 episodes.

Am curious if the thing with his ex will return. Might her new boss be the Geordie from GoT? He could be H4.

Think it was 2019, so that detail checks out.

2nd episode was definitely better than the 1st, a bit predictable but otherwise more like the LoD of old.

Only thing ruining this series for me is Kelly MacDonald. Awful, wooden acting, especially in that AC12 interview.

I got unreasonably annoyed about when they left the DCC outside the sunlight caused real consistency issues but Hastings's only put in his headgear when actually in the pavement in public, surely it should have gone in while leaving the building.

3 pips is a Chief Inspector. The rank above that is Superintendent...so if they hadn't adopted a crown, feasibly they may have adopted....4 pips....

I've just watched from that start over last few weeks and finally caught up.

Its a shame its got so daft after what I thought was the high point of series 2 and 3. Not uncoincidentally that was the Lindsay Denton era and Keeley Hawes really impresses me - she's such a classy actress and was head and shoulders above everyone. Look at 'its a sin' for even more nuance.

Its still great fun, even though the show itself is so po faced it seems like the writers are having a laugh and indulging the 'LOD bingo'.

Series 1 was a joke after Eric Gates says with all the seriousness in the world "if you're coming after the king you best not miss". Pure cringe but still funny. It deffo seemed amateurish though

Like I said, Keely Hawes raised it for the next couple of seasons and Daniel Mays was great as well. Series 4 was a big downturn for me and Thandie Newton looked great but I'd say was miscast. Series 5 was just getting daft plotwise and the OCG just looked crap so all the menace and mystique went.

I love it for Ted Hastings who has had all the best lines, although his cheesy line on last nights episode about hastings being the name for an old battle was laugh out loud funny.

the only dodgy regular actor for me is martin compston although Vicky Mcclure has been disappointing too - and she was amazing in This is England. There was a scene in this season where Arnot went round to Stephs house and they had some footy banter that was acting straight from a B movie.

They should've let martin compston act in his regular voice if it would help him seem less wooden but he might ve insisted on putting on a SE accent just to get more regular work. There's plenty of Scots in the show - although DCC Hilton/Jamie from the Thick of It put on an english and was one of the worst actors in the show.

anyway, im rambling now. We'll have to wait for a UK version of the Wire i think

I have to admit, after a late start to the series this week and getting up to speed tonight, it is basically crap. It's like 1% was written by the folks who made the The Wire, and 99% is from the makers of The Bill.

"Our shadowy and incredibly highly connected criminal conspiracy needs to off a witness, what shall we do? I know, we'll put them in a police car, drive it into a lake, which will also kill a police officer. That should arouse no attention at all"

Unless....Jo Davidson’s mother was Anne-Marie (photo from a previous series is v similar to the one on JD’s sideboard at which she threw a wine glass) and the blood relative they found was John Corbett (son of Anne-Marie); and we think (know?) Hastings had a thing with Anne-Marie which makes Jo Davidson his daughter!

Likely to be an up armoured van.

Would be about the only transit van on the planet with one!

The thing that i picked up in that scene was that when it panned out on the crash site the orientation of the van and the building with the 'sniper' were off, the angle where Steve was would have been at the overpass, lets not even mention why there's a random sniper in that building, as if they'd planned to crash the van in that spot!

they had stingers to ensure that the van stopped in the ambush location.

Mainly armoured on the roof it seems!

They pulled the stinger before the white van hit it.

Kind of assumed that was the point of the ambush? I'd also hope that any Police van used to move such a high profile target would be armoured. Those convoys are pretty impressive when you see them moving in real life.

Davidson can't be related to Hastings or any of the serving officers or that would have shown on the initial cross check of the Police database? So the Tommy Hunter theory looks likely - not sure which Corbett would now be on?

When Chloe mentions that the leak of the convoy could have been from AC-12 (I mean, why would the prison know the route of the convoy) that was completely brushed over by Ted, unless its a double-bluff by Chloe as she's the leak....?

I thik the shoot-out sequences in LoD are always massively OTT, there was the one where Kate took out Cottan in the Range Rover with a single-shot a couple of series a go, and then Steve's shot tonight was straight out of 60's James bOnd, and far too many bullets exchanged.

BUT is Ted the real H, that's why they're getting rid of him? or is DC Syad is the real H at the top of the tree....

I've got to be honest, after five and a bit series I've got to the point where I don't really GAF. It's gone from being a sharply-scripted, taughtly-plotted thriller to being an appallingly-scripted, absurdly-plotted nonsense.

I will of course watch it to the end, because MrsIHN will want to. I'll just have to keep my tutting and scowling to a minimum, because apparently it 'spoils it for her'

If I was head of senior police and head of the OCG and Ted was being a nucisance, Ted would have been killed off a few series ago, make it look like a botched burglary.
