Worth a visit?  As a tourist, I mean?

I know Lincoln is a historical city which I quite like, and so far we've not visited flatland before so there might be some attraction in different scenery (as we live in Wales).

I understand the Cathedral is remarkable, although I haven't been there myself.

Beyond that, I can't offer anything. Sorry.

Used to live in Lincoln.
Deffo worth a visit, the castle and especially the cathedral are fantastic.
When you're "up hill" visit The Strugglers or the Queen Victoria for a pint.

The cathedral is indeed excellent.  The castle is straight across the road and also worth a visit.

I'm there every week with work. The cathedral never ceases to amaze me. I think it's a lovely little city, or at least the "uphill" part is. I can recommend places to stay if interested.

The Lincolnshire Wolds are hillier than you might expect too.

I was unfortunate enough to live there for 4 years, won't be going back.

Cathedral is certainly impressive, and every so often the Red Arrows would fly over. That's about it, flat and boring sums it up.

There's a good tea shop on the steep hill!

Live in Lincoln (well just outside) and as mentioned, the uphill areas lovely, the cathedral and castle, quaint little shops on Steep Hill leading up to it. The towns not too shabby either.....

Don't know if I'd travel more than a couple of hours to visit tho, but then again that might just be cos I'm used to it and don't appreciate what's on my doorstep.

Gibraltar point  and Mogs eye if you like nice beaches

East Kirkby if you like Lancaster Bombers.

Tatershall if you like unusual brick castles

Caldwell Park if yuy like going fast on 'run what you brung' days (haven't verified the accuracy but I was told the lap record is still held by one Mr A S da Silva in an F3 car)

Burghliegh if you like to watch/ride horses jumping over things slowly

Belton if you like old houses that were once in a Jane Austin adaptation. Harlaxton if you prefer your old house to have been in a film.

Pretty much anywhere else if you just like to get away from people.

There's one hill. The locals looked at it and thought that's steep. It's called steep hill.

Can you setup an exchange program you come here and I'll go to Wales and play in your mountains...

I moved from near Lincoln (Newark) to Wales about 12 years ago. I'm never going back!

Newark Castle (may) be worth a visit on the way over

Lincolns really nice, I went to collage there, it feels a lot more vibrant since the uni opened.

For the 'Seaside' we always use to travel a bit further to Hunstanton rather than Skegness or Cleethorpes, of those nearer Lincoln Mablethorpe was my fave as it used to be a nicer beach

The Cathedrals def worth a visit, and the top end of town, although there's not more than a days wandering to be had in the city center if that. (Obvs if Sonic Sounds was still open you could spend 3hrs looking at second hand records, but its not, shame)

It's very flat, if you take the road bike, of a 2 hour ride I'd check the wind direction, ride 1.30 into the wind and 30 mins back.

I once bought a Surly Crosscheck (I think) off of Sadexpunk on the outskirts of Lincoln - True story

On the upside it seems to rain twice as much in Wales as it did back that way so at least it may not be misty drizzle for your entire trip! 🙂

In a lot of villages the speed bumps are the highest point for anything up to about 20 miles, some of them have names too.

RAF Waddington (?) has an annual air show. Scampton is home to the Red Arrows and was home to 617 Squadron (Dambusters) during WWII.

Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight is based nearby, has a museum & is well worth a visit

not quite as hard to get to as, say, Norwich, but not far off

Yeah, second the Airshows, we used to go to Coninsby (and always visit Tattershell castle in the village next door)

Waddington and Finningly when it was on in the early 90's, the Coninsby Museum would def be worth a visit.

Little known Newark Air Museum was a childhood hang out and has some good examples of post war aircraft

Depends on your interests and those in your family/group.

I now live in Lincoln and have been a frequent visitor for years. Newark is 15 miles down the A46.

If it's leisure only - no bikes - definitely yes. As ^^^ various RAF bases and Newark Air Museum; would add Newark Civil War Museum. Museum of Lincolnshire Life for rural, agricultural stuff. Castle for one of four remaining copies of Magna Carta.

If you want some biking - great on road but nothing you could truly describe as off road.

Historically, the Jew's House and adjoining buildings are original mediaeval buildings from the times of jewish purges.

Lincoln Uphill is glorious; cathedral is my personal favourite. Great photo opportunities. Imperial Teas  is a great shop - they also sell coffee.

Eating options range from cheap'n'cheerful to fine dining. In Uphill area.....bronze pig (over-priced and aspirational), the old bakehouse, wig & mitre (reliable - always), Brown's pie shop (ticks my box), Olivares Tapas (very good, particularly the octopus), white hart and the tower are more than acceptable. In the Brayford area it's all chain operators - and full of students.

Drinking - Uphill; Wig & Mitre for wine; white hart for cocktails; prince william for ambience; cardinal's hat for gin; straight and narrow (bottom of steep hill) for huge selection of beers.

The very best bread within 50 miles - Ticklebelly Lane bakery on Guildhall Street.

It's easy get to; by road - A1/M1 N then A46 from Newark; train links are best via Newark which is on East Coast mainline.

I think it's a lovely place.

My wife's from Lincoln. She moved to Wolverhampton and thought that was an improvement.

Some time ago mrs dd and I visited Lincoln with some friends to stay at one of their parents’ house and do the Christmas markets.

We came back to Brizzle with a baby. 😮

All kinds of things can happen in Lincoln. (It’s also our little fellow’s “second” middle name.) I did think it was a lovely town by he way. The cathedral is an amazing building but there’s plenty more there on top.

It’s not called hidden Lincolnshire for nothing. Cathedral and castle worth a visit. Nice little bookshop on steep hill.

Lived in Stamford a while, nice little town. Countryside is pretty and ok for road cycling. Worth a visit for a day I reckon.

Question for my fellow Lincolnites.  Is there any good hidden single track around the city and outskirts?  I can chain a bit of a loop over the top of South common out to Waddington and then round the back of Donnington but then I end up on cycle paths.

I know Greetwell quarry is good for messing around in but I have struggled to find much else.  I seem to end up at Sherwood for an early morning weekend blast and I could get a hours more pedal time if I could make an acceptable local loop.

Lincoln Cathedral was once the tallest building in the world, each of those towers had wooden spires on top of them  - it is without doubt one of the finest English cathedrals - also used for filming of Da Vinci code is that is your sort of thing.

Airshow at Waddington was cancelled a few years ago due to security risks. A replacement was held at Scampton last year but isn't happening this year as they made a loss.

Not really, just the odd bridleway here and there.  Have you been to the wolds out louth way? A few good hills and some good riding out there. I've done a few rides starting from willingham woods.

ah yes, i did indeed have a crosscheck, hope it is/was a good bike for you 🙂

(Obvs if Sonic Sounds was still open you could spend 3hrs looking at second hand records, but its not, shame)

The very best bread within 50 miles – Ticklebelly Lane bakery on Guildhall Street.
