Idly musing today and I got to wondering just how anonymous is 'liking' a post here on STW? If I click to like a post can someone tell that it was me?
I have read posts without necessarily seeing who the author is, clicked 'like' and then noticed that once again I have supported the views of one particular forumite. It's like I'm becoming a bit of a fan-boy for them. It's a bit embarrassing really.
I think it might be better if it wasn't anonymous. It's mostly used as a very positive thing for liking informative or funny posts etc. and I think the forum is better for it in a small way. Occasionally though, it can be used in a bit of a pile on mode I think. Perhaps people would think twice about liking (for example) posts with personal abuse in them, if their username was linked to the 'like'. I'm not saying it's a big issue, the mods do a good job of keeping on top of it, but removing anonymity might reduce it further? I can't think of a legit reason why anyone would care that others knew what posts they'd liked?
Click
the little icon, you can UNLIKE a like too by clicking it again.
I thought we only used the facility for hate likes?
I like a good hate like
Just here to like everything
Shameless narcissistic way to get a like. Have a like op.

Not as shameless as the thread where the OP asked if you could have more than 100 likes or was there a two digit limit? There isn't.

Yeah, damn the op for creating that thread, I remember it well! I couldn't believe the neediness of it frankly. Ppfft! Tsk!!
...and run Poopy! Run like the wind!!
I "like" a lot of posts accidentally as I scroll with my left thumb on my phone.
Just so everyone knows, I'm not a sycophant, I'm just a clumsy boy...

That's what the REPORT link is for.
I'll gladly break my anonymity and publicly declare that I like the Bicknoller post.
Mainly cos it's at the start of Weacombe

Ah yes! I was trying to remember who it was? Thanks for reminding me. Should be ashamed of yourself.... 😉
Perhaps more suited to this parish would be the ability to give a meh.
i gave a like to all the posts here merry christmas 😀

I should... But.
Mind you, the fickle bar stewards on here started UNLIKING the likes on the thread.
It was a little like this. I hate you all. 😀

Mods can’t see who likes a post, not even on my ipad, it’s possible tech can if they really could be bothered to check the database.
It must be possible somehow, because it's possible to remove your own likes so there must be a record. *gets paranoid about someone secretly keeping track*
Just imagine if we had dislikes, like Pinkbike.
I know who mine would go to 😛

Yes, it would be for techs as it’ll be in a database somewhere but mods have access to mod tools only, none of them show us that data.
Tell you what, it'd be nice if the "like" icon for posts you've liked was a different colour to posts that other people have liked but you haven't - I sometimes find myself liking a post, seeing the number of likes going down then having to relike it. 🙂

I think it used to do that - wasn't it green at one point for your own likes?

"STW staff member* confirms data is stored, conspicuously fails to deny that it's secretly used for nefarious tracking purposes"
Makes you think.
(*close enough...)
