Any recommendations for a lightweight hand torch (ideally with strap) around the 500 lumen range? Ideally 200 metres range.
I've seen Anker, Nathan and Alpkit so far. Previous threads suggest using a bike light?
Thanks
I have this one which is rather nice

I’ve got loads of different torches, but I love this one:

I like the fact it’s easy to recharge with a USB-C cable, it’s small enough to put on a keyring, it’s very easy to access the brightest turbo-mode with one button, and scrolling through the regular modes is quick and easy as well.
It gets used on a lanyard round my neck at work, for searching around in dark areas of cars for missing items like keys, locking wheelnut keys, and anything else during darker hours through the winter. The fact that I can easily charge it on the go with a battery pack in my pocket with a cable adds to its usability. My work tablet, which usually dies before the end of a busy day also has a USB-C port, is a benefit as well.
Thanks both.
Am I right in thinking there's potential issues using lithium batteries? A little reading of various reviews of other lights sometimes mentions this.
Exposure Joystick?
OLight S1R2 Baton. Exceeds your URS and only £55.
ThruNite TT20? Reviews well and is USB rechargeable
I have a ThruNite H01 (headtorch/handtorch combo) and it really is an incredible little bit of of kit. I’d recommend the quality.
OLight S1R2 Baton. Exceeds your URS
Not quite, I read max throw at between 138-145 metres
Well yes but then they also said about 500 lumens and yours goes up to 2526 apparently 🙂

Not really, I’ve been using Li-ion 18650 and 14500 batteries along with built-in Li-ion batteries in the likes of the one above, and never had a problem. What you don’t want to do is carry batteries unprotected, they need to be carried in an appropriate plastic case, so they don’t accidentally short out, because they can and do explode, and are almost impossible to put out! Some suppliers I used to buy from from the Far-East won’t post them any more, but they can be obtained fairly easily. Not cheap, but they’ll last for years.
It’s worth bearing in mind that a torch putting out 500-1000 lumens can burn if they get turned on accidentally in a pocket, the little Nitecore above gets fairly hot in turbo mode.
I’ve got one small flashlight that puts out 13,000 lumens in Turbo, that gets very hot indeed, before it switches down to normal high setting, it actually overrode its switch lock while in the belt pouch, which is very thick nylon, and burned a hole straight through the flap! That maker does flashlights that go well over 25,000 lumens!
Mine’s the Imalent MS03, the top of the range light puts out 100,000 lumens! It’s a handheld spotlight, basically for SAR use…

@grum yoiks that’s excessive maybe, good catch! Although finding it tricky to source 500 lumens torches which throw 200 metres (not without being a v narrow beam)
BSS W1 then? Small, light, 700 lumens, 166 metres max, also firefly mode, magnetic, USB etc around £25 including battery
Astrolux mf01?
Maybe I was excessive with the distance in that case. Maybe up to 100m max. Enough to show gates and stiles in farmers fields and light up distant road signs etc.
Thanks all 👍
Deffo H01 headtorch/torch then. Tiny and works as a torch or headlamp
Zanflare F1 if you can find one.
The Fenix PD36R has a great throw, getting on towards 300 meters. Standard high mode is 800 lumens with a 6 hour burn time using the supplied battery. Turbo mode goes up to 1,600 lumens if you need a sudden burst of flood.
Pricey though, £100. They are great, bombproof lights though. I've owned a Fenix PD35 for 6 years and it is still going strong after many night hikes and camping trips. I've also got one of their head torches which has lasted well.
