Morning all, need a bit of help if there’s any lighting/electricians in the house.
Latest diy project from the wife is to replace the light fitting in the room, the new fitting has a live and neutral.
The mains consists of 2 cables with live, neutral and a bare coppper wire, plus a 3rd with 2 bare and one orange coated wire.
I tried just swapping out the cables for the fitting but this left whites going nowhere in a sequence.
There are two switches
Any help or diagrams would be greatly appreciated
Cheers
First rule - take pictures of everything before you start. Did you?
Second rule - ignore the wire colours and if in any doubt test them all.
sounds to me like two way switching with twin and earth supply and three and earth between the switches. google two way switching for various diagrams of how this can be run
John yes I did, but the existing light had 3 wires and the new one has 2
To thanks a will
the existing light had 3 wires and the new one has 2
Then the new light doesn't need to be earthed - simply connect up the live/neutral wires that went into the old light fitting to the corresponding connections in the new one and terminate the earth wires.
