In all the other houses I’ve lived in I’ve had access to old newspapers to light the fire. We’ve finally exhausted all of our packing paper after a year in this place and I’m wondering what to do now? I’m going to have to buy something so I’d perhaps be open to some kind of Firelighter, it seems daft to buy newspapers just for burning. Are there any that don’t smell of paraffin when first lit? What does stw do?

What does stw do?

Crumpled up twenties.

Flashy uses fifties.

Mcmoonter uses those old giant  white fivers.

Yes but they are not as good as proper paraffin ones and they are more expensive. Google "natural firelighters".

Liberate some from the local paper bank. They are usually found in most supermarket car parks ( more likely to be unattended)

its recycling technically isn't it ?

My gas boiler lights itself on a timer.

I use the parafin smelling firelighters and have not been overcome by fumes so far.  And I'm only poor so I snap them in half.  Never even seen a £20 note like Perchy uses.

Thanks DezB, until you pop round and hot tap into the NTS line in the field next door we’ll have to make do with the wood burning stove!

Think I’ll just go with some of the paraffin ones I guess there isn’t that much of a smell

Free weekend paper from booths innit. And all that packaging paper that amazon uses. Plus any waste paper and documents from a variety of sources, especially if I'm not keen on putting it in the recycling. Last winter I was working my way through a few decades of my parents' financial records.

this, or the next time it isn't peeing down on your local recycling day just take a wander round your street and grab an armful.

"take a wander round your street"

Not gonna work. I live the other side of the NTS pipe from mat

We have about 5 neighbours visible and all have chimneys that are functional as we are all on oil.

We use a mix of paper and parafin firelighters
