Anyone used one of those lightbox things then? Any good at helping with your mood etc?

Before anyone asks, no I haven't been medically diagnosed with S.A.D (can you even be diagnosed with it!?), I was just wondering whether anyone had felt any real beneficial effects?

Insert 'MTFU' comments here... 😉

Yes, and yes. At least my missus says she thought it made a difference... There's a place called "healthy house" online where you can rent one to try it (I think, it was a while ago). Good luck, bring on the damn summer....

Yep I bought a 10,000 lux one from Maplin (£40) after a discussion on here. It does seem to work rather well and even if it's psychosomatic, what's the difference?

Curious about these things. What's the treatment? Do you just need to sit in front of it not doing anything else for half an hour? Or can you have it on next to you, when you work for example?

Got mine right next to my laptop at work, it goes on as I arrive at 7.30 and stays on till I get up to do other things at 8.30. If you have it close to your face, 20 minutes will do the trick.

Got an alarm clock one - its fantastic. Slowly comes on about 15mins before you want to wake up getting brighter and brighter. Like waking up to a natural sun light. Makes getting out of bed a million times easier.

Hello, I started the below thread a while ago which you might find helpful. I now have a massive lumie and it works a treat, just use it for about 40 mins in the evening when I get home. After about 4 days I started to notice a massive difference, felt less gloomy and more energetic. SAD is a heap of crap thing to have so I reckon the lamps are amazing

I've got a Philips GoLite - compact, handy and it has helped me to pretend to be human through the last couple of months.

My wife got one and found it useful. Helped wake her up and made her feel better in the evenings. Made me feel very alert too! Oh and the cats liked it 🙂

Thanks for all the advice - I did try and do a forum search, but didn't get any results.

Emma82 - top thread - thanks!

Well off the back of the suggestions here I ordered a light box from maplin which got delivered yesterday... and it's massive! It's also super bright and takes a little getting use to (I seem to be quite sensitive to bright lights.) Doesn't feel of particularly high quality construction, but for 40 quid I didn't expect too much.

Feel like I never properly wake up most winter days, hopefully this will help!
