You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Good afternoon all!
A question:
Do any of you guys and girls have any insurance for peace of mind?
I've had a search through the forum but haven't found any real discussion about it.
The fear of having a big off that would stop my wage flow is crossing my mind more and more now we've got a baby.
Any recommendations other than stop riding, don't fall off or full armour?
Cheers in advance
Barry
I've got sickness/injury/disability cover which is relatively inexpensive and would cover me to retirement age if need be.
A friend had a small slip into a swimming pool a while back and is now paralysed from the neck down. I'd be keen not to add financial troubles to the list if I was to have a serious accident or illness. My mum also needed 12 months off work when she had cancer and the stress of money worries was something she could have done without.
I used http://www.summit-fs.co.uk/ - they are the British Mountaineering Council's chosen partner, and covered me as 'professional' outdoor instructor, and leisure risks when climbing, mtb, walking, paddling, caving... They also dealt with mrs_oab's long term condition.
We are now insured through Prudential, but would not have got the cover we have if we had not gone through Summit.
They were very good.
You can take out a normal income protection policy for piece of mind but make sure you declare you are a mountain biker under the hazardous pursuits question so they are aware of it.
+1 for summit, use them as well as we do mountaineering/4000m+ peaks etc and all covered.
Thank you for all your replies, you've been most helpful.

You've probably answered all my questions here I think. If a normal income protection policy can optionally include some sort of dangerous activities, then that will probably be the way to go.
I've had a quick look at Summit, they seem to major in climbing etc. I guess they'd be happy to cover you for MTB if you also have climbing as a hobby. The risks would,I guess, be greater being a climber than a MTB'er? But saying that would being Hill-walker?
Having broken my ankle in late december last year i have now taken up some intermediate sports specific cover.
I was off work for 3 weeks which had to come out of my holiday for the year.
I am covered for "mountain biking" specifically on my life insurance and income protection policy but they don't kick in until 60 days.
This can put a fair bit of strain on the wallet in that time.
I don't get paid sick pay at work so i chose to take up a low cost policy with
"Totally sports insurance" it costs about £10 a month and covers me for a number of accidents to varying degrees depending on what i break.
This allows me the buffer before the income protection kicks in.
Call them and have a chat its non committal.
