Has anyone here taken the "Life in the UK Test"?
My wife's currently revising for it. I've taken some practice tests and have not managed to pass 😕
My wife consistently gets round or about the 75% pass mark every time, and she's only two-thirds of the way through the book.
In day-to-day life, does it really matter what % of the UK population lives in Scotland? In 38 years I have never been in any situation where this knowledge would have been remotely useful.
If I do it and fail, can I choose the country I'm deported to?

Might be handy to have a very rough idea, in terms of understanding how the UK functions as a whole, but yeah I agree that these tests have some very weird questions in them that most UK residents would fail.
most UK [s]residents[/s]politicians would fail.
Seeing as I have to have a rigorously audited and repetitive number of competencies to do my job, a pass in this exam should be a minimum requirement of being on a ballot paper. They should have to resit it every 2 years too.
My wife is currently studing for it with her exam booked for late august.....while i think its important for them to know uk culuture etc etc lots of the test questions are not relevant to everyday life and contain very little uk history , thankfully the home sec has plans to change the content of the test going forward .

Well there's an interesting point - what questions do you think should be on the test? What ideally should all British citizens know?
I did it a couple of years ago. My only advice was going to be learn the test booklet and do all of the trial tests. Then do them again. But it sounds like you're already doing that.
On the day they will only tell you if you pass or fail BTW. No score, no telling you if or where you made mistakes.
The question about the number of MPs is a good one. I'm sure, without resorting to the interwebs, most people on here wouldn't know the answer. All of my UK friends failed to achieve more than 50%, at best, for all of the trial tests.
It is a pile of twaddle in my humble opinion.
Oh, and I'm not sure what year study book the test is currently using but some of the questions may be out of date. For example, I had a question about what time pubs close with 10pm, 11pm, 12am and 1am as my choice of answers. Didn't really make sense given the law had changed. The invigilator wouldn't tell me anything other 'you need to put whatever is in the book'

Agree, as one of my staff did it a few years ago and there were a couple of incorrect questions/answers - and he was told the same.
I did it before, and tbh it definately failed.
It's very easy, I kid you not, if you revise the official standard book in addition to trying out the questions from the website for the test you should be fine. Obviously you need to know the language first.
I mean I did mine with 1/2 a question wrong out of the total. The test was so easy I was trying to see if I could break the record by being the fastest person to complete a test of some seriousness and to score perfection ... I think I finished in approximately 5 mins ... It's below GCSE level if that helps.
In other words ... the UK Driving Theory test is much much bloody damn hard and I failed!!!!! Damn! Wasted £31 and my time ...

Sinead has gone down the offy for 4 litres of Blue cider and twenty Benson. The shop keeper refuses to serve her due to her being 14 years old. What should Sinead do?
1. Walk out calmly accepting the shopkeepers request.
2. Hurl abuse at the shopkeeper before storming out.
3. Return with her brother Clancy who then intimidates the shopkeeper into handing over the stuff
4. Petrol bomb the shop.
etc etc
