I reckon they are pretty good, the tinned peaches, the orange not from concenyrate with plenty of bits, their pistachios, the bakery is not too bad, the shortbread but fish fingers for putting on a sandwich i gave them to my cat

You cant beat birds eye maybe thats why they're dearer

Sainsburys Fish fingers for the WIN!

I'm strangely addicted to their Tropica fruit juice, but think of it as a pre-made squash, rather than  fruit juice. Their pizza slices on the baked good, are a reliable lunch snack. Their chorizo ain't bad, but I do really like their salami. Their chocolate is cheap and pretty damned good. Their fresh salad/veg is definitely very good.

Though I like/use both, I prefer Lidl to Aldi.

Nearly all Lidl's food is of equal or higher quality than anything I've bought from other supermarkets.

Salad, fruit, deli and fresh meat especially.

It's OK, would be peeved if we lost it as is useful for a number of things.  Use it for quite a portion of weekly shop unless I go further out to Aldi just to get some extra miles in on the bike.  Out of the two I prefer Lidl for food and general consumables.

The J.D. Gross chocolate is great (Almond and Orange one especially)

Hummus approx half the price of other supermarkets yet IMO twice as good.

Organic veg well-priced

Bakery is tempting, the 'protein rolls' are good.  Chocolate ring donuts are the devils work I could eat ten.

The 100% long-life sliced rye bread makes epic chewy toast

Mixed nuts and dried fruit are good

Multi-pack meaty crisps taste like Walkers used to be in the 80s

Bottled ales are OK as far as bottled ales go.  Their lager is better.  Some nice wines, I've been told.

A bit rubbish for vegans/veggies compared to Morrisons etc tho if you want the frozen stuff.  Also Lidl are way, way OTT on non-recyclable packaging IMO, so I tend to buy at/support local greengrocers more.

That low GI loaf is awesome.

The special italian ham is amazing - especially on that bread.

The chocolate chip ice cream is also really good.

Lidl do 2 or 3 different types of fish finger. Buy better ones.

It's interesting how people are surprised that the stuff in Lidl/Aldi is good. In their 'home' market, i.e. Germany, they are just 'normal' supermarkets, and Germans will (sweeping generalisation alert) not buy crap.

They're cheap in the UK compared to the others because they've gone back to the basics of fewer lines and basic presentation, not because of the quality of the goods they sell.

Saying that, I only really use them for booze and a peruse of the Lucky Dip Aisle, everything else comes from Waitrose 🙂

Another vote for the low gi loaf.

The bottled Perlenbacher hits the spot, too.

The jam is good, better than most of the other supermarkets.

The bean burgers are nice.

Also the cider, made by Westons.

I know nothing about what is a good or bad wine, but the Lidl's Rioja with the grey label is as good as anything else I've tasted.

It helps if you eat it all collectively, rather than a deconstructed version.

The chianti is very like what you get in Tuscan restaurants if you ask for the house wine

Tried it multiple times in MK but unless you get there 5 mins after they open all the veg has gone and never seems to be restocked. Can't be bothered to shop there then as will have to go to another place to finish the shopping so now its shops that can be arsed to fill their shelves that get my money.

Yes! Better than Twix. Not the KitKat rip-offs though, they’re rubbish.

There’s a big empty space about a mile from me that is possibly going to have a Lidl built on it, along with a bunch of houses, and possibly an Aldi closer to the centre of town on what was Westinghouse Brake & Signal Co’s offices and works, by the railway, which means Chippenham will finally catch up with Melksham which has both, along with an Asda.

Perlenbacher. Even has twist off cap.

The "snack" veg (cucumber, tomatoes etc) have even tempted the Mrs to eat veg for lunch, can't be bad!

In their ‘home’ market, i.e. Germany, they are just ‘normal’ supermarkets

Still pretty basic in-store presentation though by all 3 compared to the "hypermarket" stores that could be likened to Asda/Walmart or Tesco. That's exactly how they started out.

Yup all 3 not a typo - Germany is about the only place where Lidl and both Aldi's trade.

Must be doing something right - 2nd, 3rd and 4th richest Germans (even though not all are alive) are the owners of Aldi, Lidl, and the other Aldi.  Owner of Real (a bit like Asda) just sneaks in the top 20.

I thought the ales were brewed by Marstons or one of them, much like all the supermarket branded ales in UK? All are pretty reasonable.

Only things I get are the chocolate raisins.
