Not sure what to make of this?

My first thought was...John Squire must be short of money. Why wouldn't he collab with the talented Gallagher brother, not the ****tish one?
Love everything the roses ever produced, not a big fan of Liam's whiney singing, he is popular though.

+1.
I’ll give it a listen - but I think it will be dire …
I won't judge, but Liam is a massive tit. So I'm not expecting much.
TBF both Gallagher's are nob heads.
Last Liam track I heard though sounded like he was singing whilst wearing a scuba mask!
They are both well passed the sell by dates of their creativity, there is a reason we can only remember the songs they made 20-30 years ago.
It is pretty rare for "artists" to continue to be creative beyond their heydays, just cash in selling nostalgia, or make music for yourself and the 5 other people who care, just don't try selling your turgid unoriginal output to the masses in the belief you still have it, like a middle aged mum still "rocking" the same hairstyle and leggings she had in the 80's.
Massive Oasis and Roses fan... 25 years ago. Think I'll give this a wide berth...
Roses and Oasis had one great album each - their first. Everything else was at best 'pretty good' and largely 'meh'.
I am not giddy with anticipation.
I'm setting my expectations at "Seahorses" at best.
Brilliant guitarist and excellent frontman in mediocre cash grab pension partnership
They know it will be dull, you know it will be dull, they know you know it will be dull.
But it will sound familiar, sell a bit and the resultant tour (inc "best of" from both) will be quite lucrative. A legion of stone island wearing skinheads and wellends can't be wrong.
I eagerly await what Ian & Noel will have in retort to this.

I mean, a lot of our "heritage rock" stars do look like middle aged mums anyway.
See Paul Weller, Ronnie Wood etc. for evidence.
I've always disliked Oasis, but was under the impression Noel was the bigger gobshite these days. He may have been the musical driving force, but it was dull Beatles pastiche anyway so...
Its all building up to the absolute meltdown that occurs from 40-something blokes wearing Adidas trainers and tracksuit top with a pair of jeans and a fisherman's hat and stupid sideburns when Liam and Noel announce a reunion tour.

Already been done (Keep what ya got) excellent tune too!

*checks age*
More likely to be 50-something, especially if they were Roses fans
Yep 53 🙂
Surprised no one had bumped this thread as the first track is now available. For what's it's worth I think it could have been a lot worse, but isn't particularly inspiring.
I’m setting my expectations at “Seahorses” at best.
My initial gut feeling was about right.
Didn't think much of the libretto.
Someone's got a tax bill then?
Its like some kind of lazy parody.
I know thats all Liam has done for years, but I would have expected a bit more from John Squire
but I would have expected a bit more from John Squire
I'd say he has form..
12/03/2009 - releases artwork called "I have no desire whatsoever to desecrate the grave of seminal Manchester pop group The Stone Roses, 12.3.09."
18/10/2011 - Announces The Stones Roses are reforming.
Its like some kind of lazy parody.
It's pastiche, but at least it's a decent pastiche TBF.
Probably 'cos it's a lot more Roses than Oasis.
It's alright.
With a different vocalist I would have probably quite liked it.
Absolute dross frankly.
Made me go back and listen to this cover from 30 years ago…
I have finally heard the single and it is bloody awful - the guitar track is a blatant rip-off of Rock n' Roll Star and, as for the guitar solo, WT actual F – it sounds like a sixth-form band playing their first school gig and desperately trying to impress.
Lyrically utterly dire. And that solo?? Shockingly bad.
Awful Dad rock as always. First SR album was amazing. Fools Gold onwards average at best. Oasis , just dire and turgid from the get go. High Flying Turds, Beady Eye and Liam solo just awful, boring Dad rock.
Forgot, Seahorses. Preferred the Shirehorses.
I like it. Although it is very like 'rain' by the Beatles
Much rather listen to Liam sing than Noel. Godawful nauseating bland voice
Squire's first album was pretty tune free (didn't bother with his second) and his voice was an acquired taste. It's similar to tom Verlaine's. But I still rate him as a songwriter
Bassine is like burning wheel primal scream which is itself a rip off of taxman or rain
Basically all indie is a ripoff of rain

That’s what could be called a very sweeping statement, that! There’s certainly truth in it where many artists arrived at a formula that their fanbase were very happy with, and seemed openly disapproving of any attempt to change it, and I can understand that, as it basically means a financially stable career and guaranteed pension.
There are plenty of other artists who cannot help but create new music, regardless of what their early fans think, and will continue onwards, sometimes in spite of financial difficulties, relying on word of mouth to sell recordings and tickets, and it’s not unusual to find that they do manage to keep a rewarding career going. There are artists whose careers I’ve been following for twenty-thirty years, and the spread of social media has helped immensely, from the very early days of MySpace, to the present with a whole bunch of outlets for them.
I’ll be honest, being able to see an artist perform regularly at small, intimate venues, and be able to support them by buying their music directly, and in so doing create a friendship as well, is very rewarding.
I’m seeing one such artist at a lovely little venue on Friday, her new album is due in March, and she’s been able to produce a beautiful hard-cover book of the lyrics, which she wrote as a poetry project during lockdown, and has become a stunning spoken-word album, which is wonderful to see after twenty-odd years with a family of three raised at the same time.
And she’s by no means alone there.
As far as this Gallagher/Squire effort’s concerned, I’ve listened to the title track, and let’s just say I’ve heard a lot worse, but to quote Courtney Barnett, “Pedestrian at best”
