Following my post about registering a German vehicle I'm now told I may need to register it as lez compliant as its diesel it weighs under 2500kg

What do you know about this ???

Assuming it's a camper van, and it's already UK registered, then field f.1 ("maximum permissible mass") on the V5C must be 2500kg or less for it to be LEZ exempt. If this is not the case, but you do not intend to run it with total weight over 2500kg, then you can have it "re-plated" down to 2500kg, at which point it would become illegal to run it loaded above this. To do this, it would appear that you need to pay a company called "svtech" a bit over a hundred quid, and provide them with a weighbridge ticket. They will send you a new sticker to put wherever the VIN plate is, and the relevant paperwork for the DVLA. Some time later the DVLA send you an updated V5c, at which point you can apply to TFL to have them update their database.

If you drive in the LEZ in the meantime, I think you get 1 month's grace period from the first time they spot you - after that it's £100 per day.

When dealing with TFL, don't bother with email - all they do is send you pointless pre-canned letters by PDF. On the phone they're much better, and you can get through quickly.

One other thing to note - TFL, and the legislation that governs this, refer to "Gross Vehicle Weight" (GVW). This is synonymous with "Maximum permissible mass" on your V5C.
