Hi, does anyone have any insight into low emission zone compliance particularly in Scotland? Thinking about buying a Landrover Discovery 4 and have noticed that when plugging reg’s in the official LEZ Scotland website that several euro 5’s around the 2012 mark are listed as compliant when given that the criteria is euro 6 shouldn’t be the case. Wondering if this just an anomaly that could be corrected at any time or are there some older vehicles that are genuinely compliant.
Should maybe add I’m aware of reliability issues with the D4 and haven’t completely made my mind up yet
Assuming it's like London then the criteria is based on the emissions (obviously), and for Diesel that was set at the limits for Euro6.
That doesn't mean that older cars are automatically outside that, they might have had Euro6 compliant engines before the cut off date, it just depends what the emissions were when it was tested at the time.
IIRC, aren't Disco's of that era a bit of a PITA for failing MOT's as the emissions test is based on the declared emissions when new, and LR put them on the chassis plate rather than just the limit, so now ten year old vehicles are having to meet the same standards in sub optimal conditions they did when new in a laboratory? I recall a bit of a debate at the time, but don't know if anything was ever done to solve it.
I thinks its just the big cities
I *thought* that ONLY Euro6 diesel was compliant, but Euro4 petrol. And that is what the ULEZ site says too: https://lowemissionzones.scot/
How often do you *need* to be driving around central Edinburgh or Glasgow? We just park and ride with our Euro5 van if we are ever need a ULEZ zone. Even in Edinburgh with a son living next to one of the entry signs we have driven in - just make sure you don't take a wrong turn!
If it is once a year, just pay the fine.
Edit: and if you are having to drive regularly into an LEZ urban zone, then an old Disco is waaaay the wrong tool for the job.
