I though James Blunt was bad.
Pass the razor blades, I’m gonna slash my wrists.
Who buys that crap?

The current song isn't much good. He swears like a trooper so is a bit of a nightmare for live radio interviews !

It’s not to my taste either, but each to their own.

I quite like him as a character, good to see an ordinary guy do well through talent alone.

He's not an ordinary guy, he's talented!

Not my cup of tea though.

My children start chanting 'potato' whenever his stuff comes on the radio, as slightly unkindly they've decided he resembles a singing spud.

@fossy Hasn't he got Tourette's? There was a difficult moment on the One Show where he made a crack about rimming and the presenters were struggling to hold it together.

He has Aspergers I think?

Not a fan of the music, but he comes across as a down to earth guy making the most of his talents and enjoying himself.

He's a bit too current for most people on here - see Gigs thread 😀
Thing is though, there's new music and there's just the old as the bloody hills "singing songs" which is what he does, no better than millions who've gone before. The appeal is beyond my understanding.

He seems like a pretty decent guy. His interview with Steven Bartletts diary of a CEO podcast is worth a listen. Not my sort of music but he's got a hell of a voice.

Stays local to me, I've met him once on a night out.

Seemed nice enough, not a big fan of his music though.

Must be something in the water here as our other mad-cap mega star is Susan Boyle

If you think he's whiney you really won't like Sam whiney Smith.

Very funny guy and he's a good pop song writer, however the weird fast vibrato thing he does (e.g. in his latest song "days ache and nights are lOoOnNg, two years still you're not gOoOnNe" is a bit grating after you hear the song for the 50th time)

Lucky you.
I should’ve said in my OP that I’m sure he’s a thoroughly nice & decent chap, which he seems to be.
I’m sure he could do better toons though.

I think this post says more about the OP than Lewis Capaldi to be honest , Quite bizzare to start a thread about a middle of the road singer on a mtb site. Whats next 'George Ezra , He's kinda bland' or 'Harry Styles , Good looking but no Nick Cave'.

I dont mind the fella to be honest though he is not on my Spotify playlist . Maybe somewhere in a distant Parralel universe theres a 'Esselgruntfuttock , he's a shite mountainbiker eh...'.

Only thing worse than someone having a different opinion, is someone saying you shouldn't have an opinion.

Has he done something specific that's promoted this thread? He's been knocking his awful sh1t out for a while. But all credit to him, people seem to like it.

I don't get why "the day bleeds" is popular, it's completely tuneless. I'm 43.

Nothing wrong with ‘singing songs’, it can be done perfectly well, and in a way that’s distinctive, however, current pop music is aimed at streaming listeners, with very short attention spans, who will skip to the next track after thirty seconds if something doesn’t grab their attention immediately. Most of what’s being played is basically a producer, with access to a library of beats and loops, a bunch of anonymous vocalists who can’t even sing in tune when Autotuned, and some equally anonymous female singer who repeatedly sings the same few random words over and over and over and over again, ad nausiem.

I hear that stuff played incessantly in the workshop next to me, during a twelve hour day, there are maybe five songs played I can actually identify. One will be an Eminem track, one will be Tori Amos’ ‘Professional Widow’, one will be a Gnarls Barclay track, one will likely be ‘Hey Yah’, and that’s about it. That’s on Kisstory. Every ****ing day!

Plethora, it's such a great word, should really be used more in song lyrics 😂

Not my thing at all. I like that he sings with his own voice though, I suppose that’s the appeal, he sounds like himself. The songs are nothing new or of interest (to me) but I don’t understand the moaning.
