Looking into getting a small 6'x6' potting shed for the garden positioned on an exising lawn - whats the best way to level the site in preparation for this? Was thinking of trying to lift the lawn to a depth of 6", line it with weed proof membrane, cover in gravel and place 4" concrete blocks in the correct positions. Or is there an easier way?
Easiest would be to dig out some turf then box in the size you want and have a load of ready-mixed concrete dumped in it - the labour shouldn't take more than a couple of hours and the levelling will be a cinch (and a weirdly very satisfying task).
Drop some paving slabs on the lawn then build a frame out of tannelised wood for the shed to rest on (you have to do this anyway to stop the base rotting) and trim/wedge the frame so that the top of it is level.
I did something very similar. There was a very small slope. Like jondoh I basically dug out at the high end. So some 4x2 to create a frame. Got the frame level, dug out the inside then filled with concrete to create the base using the frame to level the concrete.
Whatever way you choose, have some method of anchoring the shed to the ground. A small shed of ours was placed on a paved area and started moving alarmingly on a night of monstrous wind!
Used expansion bolts through the floor into the paving slabs and a couple of fence posts at the back. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
