awesome thread!

the best thing about it is that it's showcasing how wide a "sound" the punk genre encompasses, and nobody has come out with the "that's not punk" line yet either, which is great.

Spending the morning at work listening to all of these. Think I might go and have an argument with my boss 🙂

On a more modern theme....

Blyth Power - first cassette only album.

Still the best thing they ever did & probably my favourite ever album.

We've had a fair bit of The Clash, but Junior Murvin's "RIP" thread only got 2 posts yesterday, so here's a tribute to the fella who wrote this classic

Thats the thing, punk was an attitude. What you did with it was up to you.

Punk isn't my thing at all, but I was chatting to a guy at work a couple of weeks ago, and he said he was in a punk band in the 80s/90s.
He told me a story about an American bloke who made serious plans to perform with them in London, and commit suicide on stage.

The band even took advice from the police of how to avoid getting done for aiding and abetting.

Turns out the guy killed himself with a heroin overdose before he made it over to the UK.

Seriously messed up stuff!

was?

still is.

Why is "new" punk so damn formulaic then?
I'd rather think of stuff like Death Grips as punk for the 21st century than hearing the same old riffs and shouty vocals as 30+ years ago.

Not sure if you'd class it as 'new' (2002) or even punk, but this lot were anything but formulaic...

I have no idea. It's like trying to pat your head & rub your belly while flying a helicopter

up until January this year I'd never been asked to sing while playing (something to do with carrying tunes in buckets) but I did manage a whoa-ay-oa in the chorus of one song and a "oi oi oi oi" in another
