So after the epic last one, Amazon had a fair bit of business from me as I ordered Mount Gay XO (all gone), 1L of Kracken (still going) and the Diplomatico (not overly impressed, TBH)...

I still stand by my statement of Sailor Jerry being my favourie..it's 'licious with coke...!

I've recently discovered Red Leg rum - really nice for sipping neat as it's got subtle vanilla flavours...

Any other suggestions for us to try??

Mount Gay XO (all gone),

Only one choice really then...

Prices have gone up though, £33 for a 1L from my local supplier yesterday!

Hmm.. The mount gay was OK, but not amazing..
The red leg is preferable in our household - I think I prefer the spiced rums it seems...

current bottle is a Mount Gay black barrel (£30 in Morrisons) and it's currently top of the Stoner-rum-o-pile.

Appleton Estate signature rum is awful - very heavily spiced with something like Benylin.

I found Sailor Jerry to be a bit Meh. Havent tried Kraken, on my next to drink list. As is a zapaca when it's on special

It's fantastic so smooth, always take it neat.
Amazon is generally the cheapest place for it, can be had for about £40.
I guarantee you'll love it, if you don't I'll dispose of it foc

I so miss Salior Jerry.

Xmas party 2014, drank half a bottle or more of the stuff, insulted everyone I work with, tried to smoke 10 years after I quit and threw up, attempted to jog 5 miles home, made it 5m and was put in a taxi by my boss.

48 hour hangover.

Can look at it now.

Sailor Jerry ain't the same as it used to be, change of recipe a few years back, would take a captain Morgan over it now.

Oh also if your after an ass kicker for a party check this.

As I opened the thread I was about to suggest Red Leg. But that was done in the OP.

Very, very nice. I have to put the restraining ropes on though, otherwise I'd drink the lot in one sitting.

Kraken and Barcadi Oakheart are the other two on the go ATM.

Old J spiced (the standard stuff, not tiki fire) is the recipe that sailor Jerry used to be.
My recommendation is El Dorado 12yo (approx £40) or older if you can afford it.

Havana Club Selección de Maestros is the one for your Christmas list Doc - limited availability in UK, about £55 for 70cl; taste - enjoy - then explore the more rarified offerings from Havana Club.
There's a rum from Santiago da Cuba which I've tasted but never seen in the UK - it's fabulous but that doesn't help you to find it!

Just really starting to get into rum after malt whisky being the default choice for strong liquor.

Got a bottle of this for my birthday. Utterly delicious and highly recommended:

Also a big fan of Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva.

I think I'm the sort of person who would like rum. Tried Kraken cos it had a cool bottle but I think the spice bit I didn't like. What would be an ok non spice rum for me to try?

BTW my wife would like to get a globe drinks cabinet so I need to expand my horizons...

This.

Anyway - the MG Black Label has arrived so I now have an embarrassment of riches in the cupboard, but am avoiding booze until Sunday night as I need to train/taper/race well for what is my final - and pivotal for league placement - race of the season Sunday afternoon.

I might have to phone in sick Monday 😀

Which Diplomatico did you try?, as the Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is a lot nicer and different to the slightly cheaper Reserva bottle.

This is amazeballs, especially when made into an old fashioned.

[img] [/img]

DON PAPA OLD FASHIONED

“The old fashioned is an all-time classic cocktail, served in the best bars for over a century. This Don Papa based Old Fashioned is designed to highlight Don Papa’s magnificence.”

Don Papa Old Fashioned 2

5 cl Don Papa Rum
1 cl liquid brown sugar
1 drop maraschino
2 drops hopped grape fruit bitters
1 drop orange bitters
2 slices of orange rind
ice

Take a rock glass, cover the bottom with 1 cl liquid brown sugar. Add 1 drop of maraschino, 2 drops of hopped grape fruit bitters, 1 drop of orange bitters and 5 cl Don Papa. Add 2 slices of orange rind and slowly add ice to rim while stirring all the time. Serve.

oh and if you are all rum lovers, you need some of this!!

Corn N Oil is a drink to die for!!

Corn ’n Oil Cocktail

2 oz Barbados rum (Plantation 5 Year Barbados, Mount Gay Eclipse)
½ oz falernum (Taylor Velvet Falernum)
2 dashes aromatic bitters (Bittercube Blackstrap or Angostura)
Build the drink by stirring all ingredients with ice in a rocks glass. Optionally garnish with a lime wedge, which may be squeezed into the drink according to taste.

B.A.Nana... I (painfully) find the cheapest place for rums is Amazon..
The 15 year Eldorado is (today) £44.95 there..

Red leg is cheapest there too...

And..it arrives the next day, jsut in time to curb the shivers....
