I thought there was a thread on this but a couple of Google searches and one on here showed nothing

Anyone watched it yet?

I was born the year Lennon passed, so very much before my time, as a teenager I usually put off listening to bands from before my era due to not knowing the context, Zeppelin, The Who and The Jam being exceptions, I don't think I've ever really listened to a Beatles album but was intrigued to actually get some proper, full on context, and by god there's a lot of it here...

I thought it was like three 90 mins'ish episodes, not the best part of 8hrs! The first part I stuck to, the second...there's only so many times you can listen to the intro of Don't let me down! So ended up drifting for an internet browse or two, the third I kind of feel I have to watch now to wrap it up.

Have to agree with the Guardian review in one respect, Yoko had the patience of a saint sitting through all that! I could'nt believe there were what 29/30 when writing that last record, incredible the amount of songs they'd recorded before they got to that stage

The sessioning of the start of Get Back was pretty amazing to watch, did they bottle the protest song effort and tone it down so much it was hardly worth bothering?

I probably should listen to the record now, they never go to he bit where Spector got involved, not sure if it's covered in the 3rd part or not.

I've not seen it yet but I think I'll give it a go. The time I saved by not watching lord of the rings has freed me up a bit

I sat through it all this aft/eve, was interesting, and my biggest take away from the whole thing was that Ringo, throughout, was just happy to be a part of it all.

I though it amazing how many other artists songs they knew, and could play pretty well, on top of all the plot own.

Yoko, meh, maybe the edit didn’t paint her as well as it could have, but I have no warmer feelings than prior.

The filming downstairs while the rooftop gig was happening is worth a watch too, I’ll not spoil it.

I don't really get that view point at all, I've heard a few people mention it, Ringo was a massive part of the beatles sound. kinda belittles him does it not?

Anyhow, I thought it was tremendous, just fascinating watching the interaction between them them all and seeing the song writing process.

Can see it might not be everyones cup of tea mind you, but aye for me, it was amazing in my book.

I guess I mean more for the politics and dynamic of the group, rather than musically. He knew he was on to a winner with what he had, rather than John, Paul and George who seemed to want to move onto other things, be that as part of other groups, solo or something else.

Coincidence - I was listening to the White Album over the weekend.
What platform is Let It Be on?

Spoilers!

Lennon's dead?! George's new album's been delayed again?!

It's on Disney+ , the streaming service

I can see the artistic point of the eight hour running time, but makes it a bit overblown IME, (but what do I know) watched the first one so far and, like Jackson, I'm intrigued by the fact that we've been led to believe it was a fraught affair with bitterness from all sides right from the start, but clearly not! These are still a group of friends

The thing that stands out for me about Starr is the fact that none of the rest of the band really try to influence what he does, or ask for a particular kind of drumming or beat, they just let him get on with it.

I've watched 2 of the episodes so far and have really enjoyed them.
I'm not a massive fan of the Beatles but if you have an interest in music they are well worth watching

Highlights - the insane musical creativity of Paul, seeing Get back being created from nothing to the basis of a track in about 2 minutes, Billy Preston on keys, Yoko not being the evil influence as she has been portrayed.

Yoko not being the evil influence as she has been portrayed.

Or indeed any influence at all, seems she just sat there and screamed a bit. Paul kind of eluded to it though, saying how John was wanting to spend more time with her, and that would take priority (he didn’t appear to have a problem with it mind)

I hope it's not going to be like What we did in the Shadows. Two episodes in and not a sign of Hank Marvin.

Finished watching yesterday. Absolutely compelling, but I guess you have to be a bit of a fan.

I found it totally surreal, watching and hearing songs that have been there forever, coming together. Macca clearly the creative force at this stage and an incredible musician, Lennon's sense of humour and Harrison starting to become frustrated as his own creativity grows.

Hadn't appreciated that most of the Let It Be album came from that rooftop performance. Incredible really.

Not sure that Yoko Ono split the Beatles (think that was Klein) but Billy Preston saved them.

The bit where McCartney literally conjures up Get Back from nothing in the space of about 10 minutes had me rewinding and watching again...You sort of understand that he's regarded as this amazing songwriter, and then you see it in action...Bloody hell.

But...For me the most surreal thing is watching the reaction of Ringo and George as they watch this happen in front of their eyes, you can see they're bored (Ringo yawns at one point) they've clearly watched all this happen before and it's totally routine for them!

Enjoyed it immensely.
Watching them jam and practice songs made me think of every band I've ever been in (without the Beatle's genius obviously!). Taking the piss, changing words, putting on voices, a lot of procrastination...all very familiar.

My vote is for Jimmy and Debbie at Apple to be the joint 5th Beatles. They were great 😆

Not sure that Yoko Ono split the Beatles

there's a a very telling bit where Paul and John discuss the fact that they've not been supportive enough of George. I think John says something like "we made that wound fester, and neither of us took the opportunity to heal it" I think Ono has been cruelly maligned. Her "part" in the break-up was massively overstated (if indeed she had anything to do with it at all) .

I really enjoyed it. I also feel quite ashamed. I've managed to live for 43 years without realising what an immense talent Paul McCartney was. They all came across as really nice guys but Paul was awesome. Hi voice, his writing, multi instrument playing, his diplomacy, empathy, encouragement, management. I was awestruck.

Well worth the watch. I think it shows that no single Beatle was to blame for their breakup it had just run it's course and they all wanted different things. John Lennon to me comes out a little better than I expected and Paul McCartney a little worse.

Only because I got the feeling with McCartney it was his way or not at all. (I love McCartney). I wish we could have that for every Beatles album ever made, it was compelling.

That's honestly really interesting, as I've spent pretty much 47 years finding Macca hugely irritating.

BTW, thread title is wrong. The series is called The Beatles - Get Back. Might come in handy if you are searching for it.

Watching it now and I've got to agree.  I'd never really appreciated the skills required to bring it all together, not just the playing.  I think this is where the length of the whole thing really works (if you can stick with it) in that it's some of the small stuff that is really impressive.
