Just found out that the Artemis set exists. So now I really want that. God knows where I'll put it tho. Already have the Saturn V, ISS, Apollo 11 and Discovery.

I'd also buy this if it ever comes out - https://ideas.lego.com/projects/10a3239f-4562-4d23-ba8e-f4fc94eef5c7

My son was never into Lego as a young kid, but seems to be keen now at 13. Anything to keep him off screens!

This was a present from him to mum, whose favourite animal is the giraffe. They had fun making it together.

It does. It's battery powered so has a working winch, blades and retractable undercarriage.

The cowling at the front slides forward to allow you to see the MRH working, standard sliding doors, etc.

I'm toying with the idea of a lighting kit for it.

I posted this elsewhere on STW earlier, but I bought a flego Yamaha bike and lighting kit from https://joooooy.com/ .  The light kit was excellent, I'd recommend.

I'm currently about 2/3rd of the way through Diagon Alley and have got to thinking. If I wanted to design my own model of eg my house and garden, is there an app or something similar that I could do this with. I'd like it to have the ability to let me design and create the model, hopefully step by step. To know how many of each type of brick I'd need would be really useful too.

And as above, isn't Endurance just SO good!

@Ambrose , yes I think off the lego website there is a design tool.

Oh man, that's the first time I've seen the Endurance... now I really need something I didn't know existed.

But with a huge backlog of sets to build, and absolutely no space for an 80cm wide display, it's probably not going to happen (ie I'll get one on sale and put it away with the others).

Lego Concorde down to £117 at Argos.

As a new customer you can get 8% cashback via TCB and using vouchers from workplace discount schemes save another 6% which makes it £100!

Lego Star Wars Venator is down to £373 which through similar shenanigans can be had for £320.

A little over £18 (+tax) at the moment.

I just found this on AliExpress:

£46.11 | 1642PCS Technical F1 W14 E Performance Speed Car Building Blocks Brick Compatible 42171 Vehicle Model DIY Toys Gift Children Kid

Ignore that £46.11

My better half has ordered the Endurance after we watched the excellent documentary... should be a fun build over Christmas (currently on back order until 9/12). We went to the brickfest in Gloucester a couple of weeks ago. It was nowhere near as good as the massive one they do in Swindon, but still had a few interesting displays.

Some of the 2nd hand stuff tho (built once, now out of production) was mad money. Star wars esp.  Big star cruiser was £750!

There were a couple on BrickLink in the UK for £50 yesterday but they've sold now. Of all the GWPs this year that's definitely the one I'd have just bought as a regular set. Hoping some more turn up on the secondary market for something approaching reasonable prices in due course.

Any recommendations for a biggish set for a (competent) 9yo? I've scanned back a few pages, the Concorde came close but probably not interesting enough as a build (and back to £170). She had a dreams space craft last year, good couple of days involved building. Budget ~£100.

You should be able to get the FORD car for under a hundred.

I am in continental europe though recently we could get the le mans Peugeot and Mclaren F1 for around a hundred to in the pre christmas sales

Thanks. The ford is perhaps a bit motor-some for her. Doesn't look like you get much for the money under £100 these days, crikey. This might fit the bill (she said no technics but I think she'd like it)

Crikey, there is some big money in Lego now.

I’ve still got the technic Bugatti veyron, unopened and in the shipping case from a punt about four years ago when it was £95 at Argos.   No intention of ever building it as I’d have nowhere to display it. My son, now at Uni, has the Porsche GT3 R/S built, which seems to now go for daft money even second hand.  We’ve also got the huge Mercedes Aroc tipper grab wagon which was a really great build with all the pneumatics.

Scrolling through eBay, there seems to be a theme of high value collectors, with unusual models, such as the carousel, and popular themes, Ghostbusters and Star Wars, looking to hold their value. I suppose these appeal to both Lego and the genre fans so a double bubble market.

I have the GT3 brand new unopened in box in carton after an Argos deal (£130 in 2018). Looks like it might be worth upwards of £600 now.

I know it's naughty lego, but we bought a Building Blocks Porsche RSR from Ebay for £28. I bought it to show my son it was a pile of shit and will not be like his The Batman and Back to the Future car kits. It came in a bag of bags and no box. The Ali express ones come with a box I have been told.

The instructions were poor, but we always use the iPad app; the process is the same as it would be for the real deal kit so it is fine to use the app to build.

Not a single missing piece although the plastic may not be as hard it all clicked into place as expected. Felt bad for Lego when building it as it was such a theft of their product. Didn't last for long, I remembered how many kits we have bought in the last 14 years - smiley face.

I've just started work on the millennium falcon ucs and a thought has crossed my mind after searching the bags for 8 times one particular piece.

I have all the bags labelled 1.6 of them to be precise. I also have two unlabelled bags that clearly hold the long technic beams I'm going to need early on.

My question is this, is there any logic to how elements get packed in the bags? I thought there was. Lots of flat pieces in one, lots of connecting studs in another, lots of tan coloured piece in a third. However, searching through a bag for 8 of a particular piece, there were only six if them. I found the other 2 in a different bag.

Is there an element of randomness to what goes in each bag? Or is there a well structured system that true Lego fans understand?

Bloody good fun either way.

I would guess it's to do with the lines in production. Each line would have a limited number of bricks, which would be selected if needed. At the end there will be a bagging station (I guess they also weigh them to check for missing parts). The lines wouldn't be specific for a particular model, hence the mix in types of parts in each bag.

But a total guess.

I live in the North of Portugal just outside Paredes de Coura, which seem to be a bit of a Lego capital over here, not sure why....

At the moment (Christmas holidays) there is an exhibition with three or four large rooms full of Lego displays, a play area for the kids and a shop. Free entry.

In the summer there is a fan weekend with Lego fans visiting from all over, using the Cultural center in the town, also with free entry to the public for the exhibitions.

Yes, if it's a genuine box fresh Lego set. You build in bag order. All the bits you need for the first step are in bag 1. The only exception will be specialist large parts which are often loose or bagged separately. You do need to check the bags thoroughly when emptying them as bits get stuck inside. I dont bin the bags until each build step is finished.

Are you sure it's the UCS Falcon you are building as there are way more than 16 bags in that set.

Yes, it is UCS. There are several bags for each build phase. I've already worked through several labelled 1 and and handful labelled 2. But when I needed 8 pieces, 6 were in one bag and two were in another. Just didn't seem very logical.

I've just got a wall mount for my concorde model - I love the shape of the wings and thought it *needed* to be vertical on the wall. It was taking up too much space on a shelf.

Will sling it up and report back in due course...

Quite small but I was given Bumpy the Anylosaurus for christmas and he is so adorable. Plus comes with a little lego carrot. Excellent kit especially for the price.

(also built this tiny chinese "ISS" model, which is actually quite nice, does a lot with a little)

I stand corrected, there are 17 numbered bags in the UCS Falcon, they've changed, the sail barge has 36 numbered bags despite having a lower piece count.

I don't as such want a shelf, I have seen on amazon 3d printed brackets that hold the vehicle. However I'm unsure on the quality / strength and thought someone might have used a specific version and would recommended them or not?

A link to the sort of thing you're looking for might be helpful.

I'd imagine that the biggest issue wouldn't be the strength of a bracket but how it attached structurally to the model.

Boutique Hotel for me from Mrs Santa and a Lego city race car and truck and burger van for the boy. Still trying to get him to let us build either, Also just order Tudor corner with the two free gifts. Used my insider points plus a couple of gift cards bringing it down to £105 actual money. Chinese Luck Knot free gift will be heading straight on eBay as well, which will help recoup a little more. Keeping the corner kiosk though.

No idea when I'm going to have time for all these. Still not started Jabba's Sail Barge from November.

Caved and bought myself a Tales Of The Space Age off ebay. I literally had one of these in my shopping cart at a discount, and forgot to press buy, and then they sold out. I think officially they're "retiring soon" but no signs of restocking so I figure the price is probably going to go up... Just such a gorgeous set.

Also, I absolutely love how MOC people have embraced the format (and yep china has nicked those). So many clever variants on the theme including some gorgeous star wars and trek ones, I can see this becoming a slight obsession.

Next step is to resist a lights kit for it. Oh yeah and obviously to put it on a shelf because I have like 50 other things to build first

Nah, the postcard-looking kit from a couple of years ago. https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/tales-of-the-space-age-21340.

I got that book for ChrisL for christmas, he seems to like it but then he has a worrying classic space fetish.

The book is lovely and contains a lot of nostalgia within its pages.

My love of classic Lego Space could be a lot more worrying. I only bought one of the new Galaxy Explorers, for instance.
