I know it was released a few years ago now, but has anyone got it / had it?
Used to love Lego Technic when I was younger, so I’ve been toying with the idea of buying the set to occupy myself for a little while now the nights have drawn in. I do night ride twice a week, so this would be for the nights in between!
Did you keep it once built, or did you sell it on?
Was it easy to shift?
Thanks.

I bought this for my lad what must be three years or so ago now, £90 from Argos at the time. It’s built, and now on display. It’s an ok build, a bit weird in that the gearbox is quite technical but then it is all covered on completion so and can’t be seen.

For a better “build” challenge, we also have the Arocs, with the pneumatic grab. Now that was a good build, fascinating.

As an aside, the Porsche seems to be going for daft money, as it’s retired. The Bugatti veyron might be a similar challenge, and I believe available still at Smyths. I managed to get one from Argos with a 10% and work discount for £170 ish and they now seem to have started to appreciate.

I have an brand-new-in-box-in-carton one in the loft (Argos bargain probably same as rockhopper - I only collected it from Argos on day 6 and half of the staff were praying I wouldn't turn up). I might build it or I might sell it but no rush. I also have a Space Shuttle that needs building and that'll happen one wet weekend over winter.

Smyths currently have an Aston for £130 that could be a going concern if your local shop has one in stock.

I got the Lepin version a while ago. Fun build over several evenings, it lives on a shelf for now but (as with several others) once my kids are big enough they'll either go to them to try to build themselves or just use the parts in the general mix.

At genuine Lego prices though, there's other stuff I'd rather build - I got a lot of enjoyment out of the Tamiya RC car I did over the first lockdown.

Thanks chaps.
I must admit the Bugatti has also sparked my interest too, also the 911 RSR.
There are still new GT3 sets out there, but like you say, they’re pretty steep.

I’m a bit of a collector - I have all the 1:8 scale cars, they are amazing! I love the build process, then you discover rebrickable.com and can use the parts to build a myriad of other cars and things out of them, just how Lego was designed. Do it!

And that Aston is creator, not technic, very different…

I have the 911 RSR & Land Rover. The 911 has a lighting kit. I'll grab some pics.

I've got the GT3RS, as above Argos deal when it was being retired. I've built it twice now. It sits under a perspex case as it's a sod to keep the dust off. As others have said you seem to spend an eternity building a hugely complicated gearbox/chassis/engine and then you just cover it all up, but then that's what happens with real cars. If you bought a second-hand one and built it then sold it on I don't think you'd be out of pocket except for postage/paypal costs.

I've also just got the Bugatti as it's being retired soon so if you want one get it now. The same will happen with the Lambo Sian in a year or two I imagine. The boy has got the 911RSR which is like a GT3RS-lite, no complicated gearbox, simpler build, bit smaller.

Excellent, thanks very much for the info.
I think I’ll more than likely try and pick up the GT3 or the Chiron, whether it be new or used.

Yes I have it. Currently hung on our bedroom wall though will move to the office when the Bugatti is complete. Bugatti is as nice so if you want one to build I'd get that unless you happen upon a cheap Porsche.

If it helps, there's a lengthy thread discussing this and many others. You might even find someone wanting to part with one.

I’m not sure I’d expect it to occupy many nights. From memory I built mine in a couple of evenings. Was a while ago now though so they may have been long evenings!

I think they were £300-£350 retail and when the Bugatti released they dropped to about £200 to clear stock (same seems to be happening now with the Bugatti).

I plan to sell mine at some point when eBay has cheap listings, they look to go for £200+ which would fund a replacement Bugatti.

I have the orange Porsche. I built it up and kept it that way for a while then dismantled it. My son then did the same and I now have it back and will probably build it up again over the winter. Most of the fun is putting it together.
