I'm now in the need of a new mouse as this one is finally past it. Must be a good 5 years old and I've really worn out the buttons, needing more pressure, tried a dozen tricks, and now finally the scroll has stopped scrolling, and this is a problem.

Current it's a razer deathadder leftie, which has been more than adequate, and its a good reputation.
I can see plenty of others, but im not familiar with any of them and some of the quite skeletal designs sometimes if price is anything to go by are more about look than function or ease of ergonomic use.

I might look at multi button, beyond the 5 and scroll, as theres a lot of talk of this game Elite Dangerous, and more of these open world single player set ups so maybe more buttons would be a better idea. Any advice there also appreciated.

I dont really game a lot these days, but time to time so prefer something best suited, than try to make do with a basic ms mouse

This might be worth a look https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/the-best-left-handed-mouse-for-gaming-for-2019/

But also don't be fooled by the 'gaming mouse' fallacy, it often just means flashing lights and more buttons than you need and accidentally press occasionally.

There are quite a few ambidextrous (read - symmetrical) mice available.

For me a gaming mouse just needs 3 things.
1.comfy, obvs..
2.Decent optical sensor
3.A button to cycle through the DPI sensitivity through maybe 3 or 5 clicks

That's literally it, everything else is just for show.

Literally  just went through this process last week. Was using a Logitech g502 which was new when it was first launched (2008 I think!) so pretty ancient.

Was going to go wireless as they are as fast as wired now with no lag issues but the prices are painfull, over £100.  Then fell completely down a rabbit hole and ended up looking at the same ones you mentioned, the new breed of skeletal mice, the aim being to be as light as possible for easier, faster movement in FPS and Battle Royal style games.  I play a lot of Apex and Division2 so didn't need a raft of extra buttons so I ended up going for a Glorious Model D which is around the £50 mark if you can find it in stock (Amazon have some I think).

It's a pretty stark shift from the G502, about half the weight which I can really feel, the sensor is flawless, nice crisp buttons with no play in them before the click and the cable is a super flexible, lightweight thing which offers no resistance to mouse movement and feels pretty close to a wireless mouse. Oh and it has RGB which obviously makes you a 20% better gamer. 🙂

Software to adjust DPI and lighting is lightweight and doesn't need to run all the time, just load it up, make your adjustments, save to the mouse and close it down.

Only been a couple of days but so far I'd highly recommend and the lightweight thing is a the real deal. Immediate, noticable improvement in aiming.

#EDIT Oh forgot to say, Model D is ergo for right handed, you'd want the Model O or O- which is ambi (O- is smaller if you have teeny hands)

#EDIT2: Some links..

Thumb buttons are not to be trifled with. I have 4 and they get plenty of use.

Out of that lot it would be the Logitech I'd go for, my G700 has been faultless thus far.

Thanks for the link Matty, thats a great start 8) My budgets about 50 though I can squeeze a little more.

@Highlander.
Same not sure about wireless. Tried the early ones but the lag made it impossible. And im sure now its way better but I'd hate to go that route and not like it. Wired you know where youo are and the reaction times.
Im on koth what servers are left and would play more but cant seem to get the comms up and running without the sounds amplifying through the TV. A connectivity issue ive never managed to sort so keeps you off the team stuff where comms is obligatory
Plus im slow at the controls working out this menu and that and by the time ive searched someone on koth ive been there so long i get killed and the last view is someone looting me 😆 5 buttons is fine.

@SquirrelKing. Big hands. I thought these multi button affairs id get fumbled with, so 2 seems fine but maybe look towards more than that. I am a thumbie favourer. There is space for one at the ring finger, but I reckon its the shape there of the mouse. The death adder is quite low profile. Logitecs look deeper.
The G700. EEK 😯 how do you hold that thing ?? I'd need a claw hand or end up with rsi 😆

Cheers to all, thats something to be getting on with.

G700 is very comfortable, think trackball type grip, it's really not as severe as it looks (not that it matters anyway as its RH only).

As always though ergonomics are down to the users preference.

Id go with another deathadder. If you are running out of buttons you can always shift wasd one but key to the right. So instead of wasd you have esdf.

The Logitech wireless expensive one is used in esports, so I wouldn’t think there is much lag anymore.

Logitech actually claim their 'lightspeed' wireless is faster than wired..! Certainly no difference that anyone can tell but I can definately understand reluctance to drop that amount of cash and potentially have issues with interference or losing control of your game because someone swtiched the microwave or the xmas lights on..!! 🙂

I can heavily recommend the Logitech Pro G -

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Tournament-Lightning-Programmable-Buttons/dp/B07L9FLRPD/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=pro+g+wired&qid=1591885539&s=computers&sr=1-1

Comes in a wireless version too if you're so inclined. Wireless tech has moved on a bunch these days and it's now on par with wired - that said I still run a wired Pro G because I just couldnt deal with another thing to keep charged, especially when it's never really going to leave the mousemat.

ANYWAY.

You can go pretty deep on gaming mice performance research - there are many sites out there that do incredibly deep research and testing on various sensors etc. Contrary to what someone said earlier in the thread, there is a lot of difference in gaming mice as thats where you get the really high performance sensors.

The Logitech Pro G - when released - was widely held to have the best sensor in the market. This was around 3 years ago. I'm not sure if anyone has a better sensor out now but I bought one when released and its been the best mouse I've ever used - and I've used alot, including a Razor DA.

It is a smaller mouse, which if you're coming from a Razor DA might be jarring at first as those things are huge. But personally smaller mice allow you to be more accurate - they're often lighter too. I guess if you use a hard palm grip you might prefer larger mice but claw/hybrid smaller is the way to go.

Once you get into the realm of a 'gaming sensor' the various options are much the same in terms of performance. Best in class currently are (in no particular order); Pixart 3360, Logitech Hero, Steelseries Truemove3 and Razer 5G. Of those only the Pixart one is available across multiple brands. Unless you are a fulltime pro gamer I'd defy you to be able to tell the difference between those 4 sensors.

As you are a lefty, it occurs to me that access to thumb buttons is an issue, even on an ambi mouse the thumb buttons are usually on  the left.  The latest Razer Viper has buttons on both sides which gives you left handed thumb button access and a couple of extra buttons as well. It's also only 69g which is 'on trend' with the latest idea of ultra lightweight.
