Just want to get it over and done with. Which is likely to be the bigger pain in the arse?

Me, M1. Better services
Wife, A1. More 'bendy' so keeps her awake.

Regular trips down South from Huddersfield and so far we take turns with both. Both seem to throw up just as many delays and take just as long.

Flip a coin.

M1 but with the radio on ready to dive left at the first sign of trouble.

I'd be on the M1 at a weekend as well, especially if early in the morning but keep a listen out for issues the later in the day it gets.

When you going?

After 8pm (check this) the A1 south is closed for roadworks around the Notts/Grantham area for about 20 miles and the diversion, whilst nice in a touring the countryside sense is quite nice, is a PITA.

I've been hacking to Harrogate and back quite a lot recently and suffered this a couple of times because I forgot about it 🙄

Then again the M1 has 50mph limits just before Sheffield too and in Notts, either way add 1 extra hour to the journey.

M1 or A1 then, journeys going to be about the same regardless..
But where you heading when in Town, East or Center? East then A1/M11, Center and M1 until you hit the traffic jam.

The route that minimises any distance on the M25.

Final destination is Kent. So I'll go A1M, M11, M25, M2.

Thanks.

Spent 4 hours in a jam on the M25 (to look at a bump on the other carriageway) doing a similar route last year. 😐

If there are issues on the M11 they are generally signalled on the A1 south of Peterborough so you can continue on the A1 if need be.
