I have been tasked to investigate a weekends boat trip on the Leeds Liverpool Canal incorporate the 5 locks and visit to saltaire. For 4 people on a ( long ? ) boat.

31st July- 3rd August so not a lot of time.

I am sure a few on here will have some experience of this so any thoughts on these questions, would be great

1.Where would be a good place to rent the boat from ?

2.Would a one journey be best with transfers at the end be possible ?

3. would a place close to Saltaire and returning the boat be a more feasible idea

Cheers

Snaygill Boats in Skipton is one I know of, there are one or two biggish Marina at the Leeds end.

You could probably get from Skipton to the outskirts of Leeds and back again in 3+ days. Re logistics, I suppose you'll have to discuss that with the boat hire companys, if you want to do a one way leeds-Skipton or visa versa.

There's a direct train link between leeds and skipton (the Leeds central station is very close to the end of the canal) . As you say, they might even meet you at the other end with your car or do a pick up.

I think you would have to do short days to pad it out a bit one way between leeds / Skipton. Although, there are loads of locks and canal bridges to navigate incl three rise and five rise, so it actually might take a lot longer than I think.

Take your bike, there's plenty of good riding along the way.

My dad, who lives close to the Five Rise Locks in Bingley says 3-4 days just to get to Leeds from Skipton.
It's only about 30 miles but there are loads of locks.
He's just checking with his mate for me too.

If you're not extremely intimate with the other crew members you will be glad you only booked three days! Imagine living in your front room with them all weekend to get an idea.

....and yes, there's a hire place at the marina right in the middle of Skipton. I recommend The Narrow Boat, a very good proper beer pub in a ginnell just beside the canal bridge. No Europiss there though.
