Sorry, does he have his own thread? Either way, in not giving him exclamation marks.

After getting his facts entirely wrong in a tweet attacking an NHS consultant he's made a public apology AND donated to the BMA strike fund.

That's got to hand hurt.👍

I'm guessing there was some legal peril involved here, this is not a man that backs down and donates money to strike funds.

Or alternatively, he's cynically drawing attention to the amount of money a consultant can earn. I'm sure plenty of his supporters just see the figure and t̶h̶i̶n̶k̶ say to themselves 'how much'?
Nothing like this is ever done without spin in Tory-land.

Thought he was punching down and then discovered that the subject was a consultant. Consultants have enough income that they can instruct expensive lawyers to begin libel actions.

Rookie error Lee you melt

I'd imagine making a donation under £2K is cheaper than a Libel case, and I'll bet money this way he can claim it as expenses or write it off using some other parliamentary wheeze.

Dr Dolphin responded to the apology saying: "A very gracious apology, thank you Lee Anderson.

"Thanks also for the donation. I hope it inspires others to donate to the strike fund as well."

Also the headline writers are clearly asleep why hasn't this popped up as 'Lee Anderson loses legal battle with "Dr Dolphin"' yet?

It might be tempting to think there's some kind of covert propaganda operation involved, but he's honestly just cocked up - and exposed himself to the potential of a costly and embarrassing libel action.

Definitely legal advice involved in his actions to remedy here.

That's not exactly true (the entire reason for IA is 30% real-terms pay erosion since 2010). However, I suspect the BMA has fairly deep pockets and access to good counsel.

I feel conflicted on the consultants action - a friend is a consultant, I know how important and amazing they are, and a 30% real terms pay cut must hurt.

But they earn 3-4 times what I do, after my 20% real terms pay cut and I find myself, rather hypocritically, wishing I had that problem.

Anyway, has Lee Alderson become a headline to hide Suella's recent nonsense being higher up the page?

No doubt he ballsed up. I'm talking about the explicit mention of the 'donation' amount to match the cover rate. There's no need to publicise that; it makes him look a bit cheap if anything.

Unfortunately revenue collection is not seen as life-saving and also doesn't appear to have a very particular skill-set required to carry out the job effectively (other than not trusting what the victim says ever until verified). Them's are the breaks though.

Surely the donation should have been 30p

Or how about…

“Tory 30p donation to doctors”

edit - I undervalued the man - 30p not 3p. Corrected

As if his comments about cooking a meal for 30p / day weren't enough to make him look and sound cheap....

Lee Anderson is mere swine. His grasp of the truth is spotted and dusky, as his apology for misrepresentation of the facts shows.

"Remembrancing"?

Anyway, has being a presenter on GBNews now become part of the Tory MP job description?

It is very much just Tory TV now isn't it?!

Can't be too long before Suella Braverman makes a bid for it to replace BBC as the state broadcaster.

Closely followed by a bill for it to be mandatory viewing in all schools and public spaces.

I suspect you are probably overthinking it - asked lawyer how much to make it go away and lawyer suggested matching the donation.  I mean if you were going to draw attention to someone getting massively overpaid for their contribution to society you’d probably highlight something like this:

https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm/cmregmem/231030/anderson_lee.htm

and getting paid more (on top of his MP salary) for talking shite for 8hrs than the consultant did for his shift would obviously not be a great look!
