What's the best way to learn to play the guitar other than spend time with a teacher? Anyone got any recommendations for books or websites?

Used to play it OK about 15 years ago but I'm well out of practice. Fancy trying my hand at it again.

Also, any suggestions on where is best to get strings from online?

Nice one on the Stringsdirect link - ordered some strings and picks to help me on my way. (Already managed to break a string - but they are 15yrs old)
